Align T-REX 600N 700N > TT gears= POS

For the 2nd time this week I stripped the front torque tube gears! I have been been doing autos from up high and when I put it down the tail blades clip the grass and chew up my gears. I am thinking that I will try the belt drive because its getting expensive and just a pain in the a$$ to keep taking the thing apart to change the gears. Has anyone else done this or think its a good idea to change over? Also figured that with the plastic tail I will save a little weight.

How tight are your tail blades?? I've heard and read that if you leave them quite loose you'll have better luck. I've seen my friend nick the grass several times with no damage. As far as going to the belt I have the standard and the belt works great and I haven't had any probs with it nicking the grass (or dirt, or asphalt!)

If you keep your tail blades fairly loose(tight enough that it holds in grips) it should be fine and should naturally fold. The problem is if your digging the tail in(TR Grips), then thats the time you should see gear stripping.

Certainly the plastic gears on most helis tend to strip on mishaps. That's one of the reasons I went with the Sport.

I have a couple extra torque tubes so I'm thinking of just buying the gears for the front, what is the trick to getting these stubborn bearings off tho? It would be much more cost effective to buy the package of three gears for $25 rather than the 1 gear and the housing for $21

Why is the topic TT gears=POS when your hitting the tail on the ground?! I could see someone saying there pos if they break in flight, but botching an auto and digging the tail into the ground? And now your whinning that they are pos? Perhaps prevention is the best solution to your problem here?

Ever thought of not dragging the tail into the ground?

Just curious, is this an issue on all TT setups or mostly just Align? If its just Align you would think sooner or later someone would make some better gears.

...If I was dragging the tail on the ground then maybe but if you read the post you would know what happened. Read the post FIRST, then respond.

Perhaps you should clear out an area to land on, and/or bring a piece of carpet to land on.

Seems like you already found the problem. If you land on the skids instead of the tail rotor, the gears will last a little longer...

The stock TT plastic gears are fine. If it were metal, something else would have to give instead of the gear teeth. (i.e Bent tail hub, broken tail grips, etc).

Buddy I think that they maybe right, that you maybe digging in the tail during the auto landing. I keep my TR blades on the loose side, and have managed to clip the ground/grass on several auto attempts. This resulted in the tail blades folding and striking the blade grip, which damaged the blades, but not stip the TT gears.

I have several guys in my club that have a 600E and 600N's with the TT. Let me tell ya, if you even bump the tail, you better figure on a new set of gears for the frame of the bird. I'm currently building a 600N Pro, and I have already downgraded (upgraded to me) to a belt tail.

For people with this mentality I bleieve a belt setup would work much better for you. I'm glad to hear you've already got the upgrade.

I put small spacers on top of the skids in the back to jack up the tail a bit, it works great, no gear stripping yet and doing lots of auto's.

Teran...if you have nothing productive or intelligent to say then no need to bother responding. Once again....I am barely clipping the tail blades on the grass, not driving the tail in or landing on the tail....there have been other posts about the gears getting chewed up if you look at them wrong so I dont believe this is far fetched. Moving on, I loosened my tail blades a bit and will have to just be more careful going forward.
