Have you removed the horizontal fin?

Maybe you could also remove some of the "bling" spacers around the screws .

Yes weight is always a two way street but I would rather have 90 size performance with 10 minute flights.

I flew today with the new SAB-50 one piece pipe and have to say it's leaps and bounds better power while easier to tune on the YS then the SB-50. I am now satisfied and feel it has Avant or Stratus-like power-to-weight with Align pricing and a cool to touch motor after a hard 3D

Video coming soon...

Thanks for the input guys, it's much appreciated.

I don't have the exact weights. But I weighed my Pro fiberglass canopy, and the plastic one on my Sport, and to my surprise the fiberglass one was lighter.

I think that we need to replace the metal frame stays with titanium or something lighter.

Actually, Ti is heavier than Al. If you want to go lighter, you would have to go with magnesium.

I got a helicopter for my girlfriend,
It was a good trade!

Basically Chris just cut the main shaft down and drilled the bolt hole out in the Mikado head to fit the TREX. Its a very simple modification.

No flybarless head yet. I have just got the motor running better yesterday. The motors not perfect yet but the SB-50 was much worse then the SAB-50. Here is a video of the 600n from today. I run out of fuel mid piroflip at end and crash. Thought I heard the motor leaning and by the time I confirmed the motor cut...

Luckily I only broke a tail slider and pitch link. All shafts, tail hub, vertical fin, boom, blades, flybar, canopy and skids are flawless! I got lucky for sure. Guess I need to lower the timer when flying hard the whole flight

The vid

Dude that wasnt crashing it was falling with style. lol

p.s the camera guy rocks!!

Soemthing different; when we were there making the video a fire truck pulled up with the lights rolling they asked us to move for a little bit and 2 mins later the Trauma Hawk full size sikorsky S-76 helicopter comes ripping over top, spins around and lands right in our field. An ambulence rolls up they do there thing and the hlie which never shut down released the rotor brake and spooled up and was airborne in 30 seconds. We rolled back to our spot and chris put on a demo for the fire fighters that put that video to shame. He had a nice applause. I wish I got it on tape.

Thanks epc2. Yes I normally get 7-9 of continuous 3D and 10:30 of smooth flying. I guess since I kept the head loaded the entire flight it's 5 minutes.

Another factor I believe is that I had 143g Align 600's bolted on as I was trying to keep my rotor head in track due to the dampers being completely worn. Soon as my Infinivation dampers arrive I will return to my trusty 119g RCP blades.

i've never managed 8 mins with mine. i don't use a header thank though.

i would guess, and it is a guess i get about 6-7 minutes using main tank only with a little fuel left in it to keep the fuel magnet happy.

depends on how oyu fly though which is major factor.

cheers

Sippin the Nectar

I have noticed a lot of different fuel comsumption characteristics with this motor and setup. I am more of a bigger manuever flyer slash trying not to crash while practicing 3D and I get around 10 mins flight time plus with engine cool down (around 2 minutes of idle). I usuaully see something with a 12 in front on the transmitter timer. I have been timing Chris and he runs out of fuel at exactly 6mins (reference the video higher up in the thread.) At about 5:30 a remider to check the tank. When he's doing easy flying like setting the motor or other non video flying he was getting 8-10 mins of flight time. These were my calculations you guys can ask him directly or Chris if these times are wrong to you go ahead and reply with the correct times. They should be reliable.

The fuel magnet has made a huge difference in the consistancy of the engines performance. Mine was having a tough time idling and we were kind of scratching our heads becasue it was just running perfect the day before, turned out the glow plug coil strectched and was running like pooh at idle, quick fix.

You idle your engine for two minutes to cool down? Never heard of that, is that supposed to be better for the engine?

Wow! I figured the FG canopy was a little heavier but that is quite a bit.
