People here's what I think I understand about this gyro. Please correct me if I don't have it right!

I'm kind of thick headed sometimes and I'm having problems with the interlationships betewee ATV's/DR's and the Gyro

I came to these conclusions after reading the article at

http://www.erinet.com/cls/rc-deals/reviews/gyros/gy401/

The settings below are referenced to my JR 10X in HH mode!

The gear(ch5) atv controls the Gain (tail wagging) of the gyro.
mine is set to 70% per the article

I found the next section to be confusing in the article. But here's my take on the settings.

The Rudder ATV and DR controls the Piro rate. So I set my rudder atv to 100% and set the DR position 0 to 70% with the 1 position being 100%. If I'm correc the piro rate should be faster when the rudder dr is in the 1 position. (keep in mind, I'm not doing piro's yet!)

I flew it today. I came home with it intact. But how does a rookie, like me, know what right is??

Help!

That is correct. I think most folk leave
the Dual Rate alone (@ 100) and change
the Rudder ATV setting. Start at 90 or so
and increase it by 10 and see how you like
the piro speed.

D/R Switch

Why would you not want the Piro rate switchable?

personally, I DO

The other thing about using ATVs is that you have two numbers to adjust, instead of just one. Unless you really WANT to change only the left rate, or only the right rate, that's just making things tedious. I tend to leave the ATVs at 100, and use the DR settings to get the piro rate that I want. Of course if the DR isn't enough by itself, I'll tweak the ATVs to get more change, but if I don't have to, I don't bother with them.

The dual rate switch comes in handy if you want to "cheat" at Piroetting loops and other piro maneuvers. Just adjust the dual rate to give you the rotation rate you want with the dual rate switch and then you can keep the stick "planted" to the side and concentrate on the pitch and cyclic more. It really helps in the beginning stages of these type's of maneuvers
