What's all this i hear about an FAI version of the 3DNT? - first thing i heard was no outrageously small under carriage!!

spill the beans...

Where did you hear that, John ?

Sounds interesting, but I can't imagine how a bigger under carriage would help with FAI flying.

via a friend who has a sick fascination for the 3DNT despite having owned two Fury's!

He spoke to Revolution this morning (apparently) and it's on it's way out to the market?? Whether or not it's true is beyond me...

Hi ya lads,

Go look at CSM 560 yes 560 thread!

Apparently some dude called Galifrey in the topic flys with Russ D and he is develping it!

However, Galifrey reckons its more like abusive structual testing than devloping work!

Reckons his is hitting on the machine big time with rockin 3-d stuff!

Hi All,

Last weekend I was at a winter-heli meeting in Germany. Henseleit himself was also there. He had the latest version of the Three-Dee NT with him. Only some minor changes, different skid-plates, glass cooling shroud. He is developing some new paddles.

There was no mention of a FAI version, he has thinking about a complete new electric design, but this could take another year or so, being busy with producing the NT machine for allover the world.

Greetings,

Rick

Cheers for the up date RIck.

A question regarding the skid plates - Are they thicker, and giving a slightly wider and taller stance ? If so they are avaialble now from Revolution Models . Price is around £20 ($30). They also have the carbon canopies in (if they haven't sold out) - price is around £70 ($105) and quality is excellent.

I have both items - the skids make the heli stand about 20mm taller, and about 40 mm wider.

Regards

Hey Carps,

I also have the skid plates from Revolution Models, only I purchased them from Jan directly. But they came in a Revolution labeled bag.

It could be that Jan used the Revolution plates, it looked to me that they were taller, hard to see because the Heli was mounted on a stand. But there was a Big Slot in the plate, at first I thought they were completly seperated in two halves, looked more like a regular UC. But a beter look revealed there was only 10mm material left above the skids.

Somebode placed some foto's on the internet, but his server is down so I cann't give you the link.

Greetings,

Rick

I believe Revolution Models make most of the sheet carbon parts for Henseleit - hence the Revolution bag ! I seem to remember hearing it from a top UK pilot who is very close to Revo and flies the NT.

(Hope this is correct and I'm not doing Jan an injustice)

He Carps,

When my kit was ready, I picked it up myself at Jan's Home. He has a small workshop where he produces almost every part. He uses two CNC-milling machines, one equiped with an index-table and a lathe with automatic feeding unit and then some conventional machines. He showed me some parts in difference stages of production, and I was stuned because he really makes al the parts himself. He explained he had to do this, otherwise the cost of the kit would be a multiple off what it is now.

As an example he showed me the centre-head-piece and the fittings he uses to machine it on the four-axle milling machine. He told me that the total machining time for one head-piece was something in the region off an half-hour. Then he told me that he found a Japannes company that could make this part for him, but then this parts should cost him somewhere in the region of 100 Euro's, Customer price would then be 200 Euro's for this one piece only. I think the reason for this high price is lying in the difficulty to set the right production tolerances with as much margain as possible to produce it at a low price, but still ensure an A quality product.

But maybe he found a partner in Revolution Models to manufacture the carbon sheet parts, now that demand for his product is up. As everyone around the world is finding out how good his products are.

Greetings,

Rick

Hi lads,

I dropped Russ D an e-mail (all his details are on the MK heli club web site).

The geezer was patchy in the reply, but pretty well confirmed that he has a re-configured 3-D NT that is a conventional layout..... and Revolution plan to release it at some point :-)

I have seen the 're-configured' heli flying and close up - it took a little while to realise what I was looking at !

It is definitely more conventional, but for me this is a negative as I love the quirkiness of the 3DNT - no other heli like it It was wrapped in a Millie canopy, with said same skids.

Apparently the biggest difference (other than eaiser orientation) was the tail being a bit better thanks probably to a more conventional boom support layout.

Interesting, but not for me I don't think

Hi carps,

always liked the look of the NT, but not sure on orientation :-(

I have enough trouble with my Rappy 50, so don't think I could cope with the oh so slippery cigar shaped canopy....

Hence my interest in this FAI NT as I could still run that cheap fuel .... but don't sound like it is going to be an FAI ship if Russ D is on the case... or is he going comp scene?

I was in Revolution the other day, and they showed me the new side frames for this 'upgrade'.

I was with you Andy, half the beauty of this machine is its mean looks and stance on the floor - if you want to look at a Millenium then go buy a Millenium!

I've seen people put the 'standard' undercarriage on and it just doesn't look right at all.

I'll definately be sticking with my 3D looking exactly as it was meant to (going flat out just sitting on the bench ). Orientation comes with experience - you do get used to it.

This new Downgrade in the model will be heavier also - another bonus of this model is the power to weight ratio, don't know how much difference there'll be but any is too much in my opinion.

Might be FAI'ing mine at the Nationals this year if I have enough room left in the car after filling it with all the junk for the swapmeet

Richard.

Funny thing about the orientation of the cigar canopy (yellow with black window) is that now that I'm used to it (took a couple of weeks), all other helis are hard to see and look funny!

Who would've thought. So, anyone having problems with the orientation, give it a bit, do some high altitude autos and you'll start getting used to it and liking it (sounds like the addiction to flying it also applies to the look of it).
