So two people get hit at IRCHA, a thread is started in the safety section(should have been in main room), someone throws out a long boring PC diatribe saying everything is OK, then the topic is closed.

Should we be burying our heads in the sand like this? This is a discussion forum. Nobody has a commerical incentive to discuss safety, why was that topic closed? We need to let as many people as possible understand the importance of flying these things at a safe distance. The top pilots are the ones who need to start it off. Like it or not, people are going to emulate all the superstars... I hope an incident like this, that did not involve a fatality, can wake everyone up, and keep a fatality from happening!

I agree.

From what I have seen, keeping the choppers further from pilot and spectators is needed in many flying situations.
After the two incidents at IRCHA, I saw that they did increase the seperation distance.

Not talking out of my ahole, I have been hit by a chopper that I was flying and by the grace of God, got by with just bunch of bruises and small cuts on my back, shoulder, and upper arm. If it had hit me just few inches higher, don't think that my neck would have made out as well.

Was a wake up call to me and I am more carefull and observent with my flying and others.

Not looking to take the fun out, but little more flight line dicipline is needed in lots of flying venues and liberal dose of common sense applied at all times.

What gets me is that whenever ANY accident happens, you get the whiney over reactions from people who clearly don't have anything better to do.

Get real. Life happens, deal with it !

It's a shame you whiney types can't focus on real problems.
You focus on the minor or rear ones where you can get some ears to bend.
The same types that would sign the petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide.

Exercise some intelligence and be responsible for your own actions and life would be better for everybody, including yourselves.

Maybe you don't agree but safe practices don't hurt anyone.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mike (DrScoles). The Pros need to show good examples because others are just following thier foot step.

I know it looks thrilling to get the helis to swoop down at close quarters but that "posibility" of error lumes sooooooo close!

I just hope that the mishaps are lessen just by using common sense and keeping the crafts at a safer distance.

aurora tail strikes VERY close to camera (i assume MR) and video gets cut off....perhaps this was one of the accidents? we know that one of the accidents was an aurora and thats about it at the moment.

atleast everyone is ok but these guys are flying too close imo. they might be in control of them 99.99% of the time but that .1 is where the accidents happen and mechanical failures rarely happen at ideal times (consult sods law )

aaa another safety thread, I wont talk how to make the hobby safer, I tried that and the smarter guys started picking on me,, besides no matter how much we talk about it there will always be those guys that fly stoned or drunk or flat-out wreckless, or move up to a 90 heli before they are ready for it,,

but I will say this,, and this is a warning,, if to-many people get hurt in this hobby the government WILL get involved, as they do in everything else !!, and we do not want this to happen,, if the government gets involved then our helis will have to be inspected weekly or monthly and after every build, as well as our electronics,, pilots will have to be certified to move up in heli size,, we don't want this !!

Why in the heck did it take 2 people getting hit to increase the seperation.....? I see some of the guys doing the hurricanes so close to themselves and their spotter. It's surprising that there are not more incidents....
That is the way this world works.... Always takes someone getting hurt or killed to change something....Kinda like the bridge collapes in minneapolis.... Now bridges across America will go through a rigorous inspection to make sure they don't collapse....People tend to forgot about being proactive these days

I agree it is BS to close the topic. I think these accidents should be used to show how we are getting lazy about these things...If a PRO can screw up and hit a guy, we all can.

Like it or not accidents lead to rules. Its how the world works, and it is clear we are not using common sense if two guys got hit in a week. My other hobby about 35 people in the US die each year...Guess what? We have guys like you claiming people should "use common sense" or "stay home if they don't like it".

I personally feel that view is myopic and silly. Common sense fades with each success when we forget that accidents do happen. Rules don't fade with memory.

People will get hurt as long people are in motion, and even if they aren't for that matter. Life happens, so deal with it. Hopefully NOT by running around crying "the sky is falling".

The incidents at IRCHA were accidents, not the result of careless or reckless actions. Most people do things with intelligence but things happen. When "things" happen, we have the opportunity to evaluate changes in the way we do things.

Some people choose to run around crying "the sky is falling". Yet others want to hold meetings and get an act of Congress passed after 6 months of debate. Others simply make adjustments in the way they do things and move on.

But then again, some people really aren't too smart.
For example, choosing to live in New Orleans where the sea level is higher than the land - - - - and wait for a hurricane to sweep in.

But do the whiney types try to be usefull by adressing issues like that ? NO ! They hang around here and pick on two NON-fatal issues here.

Anyone who can't see that we fly too close is a moron.I trust the pilots,but people still make mistakes.Worse than that is to trust tiny screws,plastic links,and battery/servo wires that are thin as hair.We just need to push it out some and that starts with good examples from top guys.

Wait a minute, you have the track record of not being accurate when you really do need to be, and funilly enough when other people provide accurate info that contradicts you, you say "keep it simple" because that accurate info is inconvienient for you and your position.

Pick a side will you, either stay in the keep it simple camp or in the accuracy camp.
