Point of view from an IRCHA newbee

Got home at 10:30 last night after 5 days away from my wife and family.
I must admit that even after 3 years of RC helis I had some reservations about attending IRCHA. After all, pooling 600 miles each way and sharing a room with a bunch of guys just to watch some "toys" flying around sounded like a lot of trouble for what it was...

So what do I think now that it's over?
Let me just say that this event was the coolest thing I've ever been a part of! A big thanks to Ray Stacy for "talking" me into going, and to those who missed it, you really missed out. Even with Sunday morning exhaustion while packing up I started looking forward to next year.

The staff and pilots were friendly, the flying was awesome (to say the least), and everywhere you looked there were obvious signs of the effort put in to set an RC event record. Simply incredible.

Mark and his family are doing a wonderful job bringing the jist of it to everyone here, but this doesn't even begin to do the total experience justice.

I was an IRCHA newbie too, my first year. I flew from New Zealand to go and it was well worth it. The flying was awesome and I met a ton of great people (thanks Bobby ad Will for being so cool and letting me hang with you!).

It was nice to put faces with names from RR too. It was fun hanging with Inkspot and others. This event proved to me that I am part of an awesome hobby with mostly amazing people. Sure, there are always the primadonnas and pains in the arses but they are few and far between I observed.

The flying was incredible and the weather was smoking. I almost melted waiting in line for my free Trex 600 Crash kit! Sunscreen was a must. They DID have free water stations setup though and a sprinkler misting tent. This was a well run event but the flying stations were pretty tight based on the few flights I spotted people for. Unless you could fly tight, there were overfly's. No dramas and all in all a total blast. I won't likely fly over again for it but if you can get there - do it. You will not be disapointed.

Cheers all.

HEY Mark, You and your Family Do more to promote the sport than anyone else has done. With all the pics, and interviews . They really keep the rest of the world informed. And If you ever walk up to Mark ,or his family, and just BS with them, you'll find that they are very plesant to talk with, and don't just blow you off. Mark you do a great job dude.

Wow amazing!!

Thanks Mark for the videos !
Is that shaky stick for the noise only I don't see any corresponding movements of the heli, or is the frame rate of the videos too low?

I'd say the video is not clear enough. Need HD or to be there in person.

Damn, Matt had a close one here! http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...HA07-Fri-03.wmv How come his tail keeps spinning after he stops the mains? Did the tail drive break or does the Synergy have a one-way bearing on the tail??

I guess the problem is mainly the refresh rate, not the resolution of the video. So HD 30 Hz probably still insufficient, maybe HD 60Hz could do the job? Catching even the finger movements seems hard for Mark's 30?Hz videos

Mark, I forgot but congrats on these nice captures. You got really good at following the moves ! And thanks for NOT mixing in music over the heli sounds.

Amazing how the "crack" moves are faster than a camera at 29.97 fps can capture! You can definitely see the shimming live though. Reminds me of an annual fireworks show when you look forward to seeing what the new shells are each year.

I think pretty much everyone just thought it was a pretty rainbow flag.

Kyle Stacy

Not sure how many have noticed, but Kyle has been inventing some new maneuvers. Here is a video that I took of him flying a stock Pantera 50

I know Mark's are better than mine, but do you ever get sick of watching them? I know I can't get enough of these myself... that is until I get dizzy trying to follow what is going on.

I will have more soon. That sure was a good time out there!

if you see the pilot running....try to keep up!
