I just picked up this Trex 450se from a friend. I took it out for a few flights, basic hovers and circles nothing special. Well today I go out and all is fine so I decide to piroutte, no problem. Then I piroutte again, just a couple spins, and set it back to the original heading. This is where I felt that it was fighting my inputs. I would set it tail-in and it would respond, stay for a millisecond then spin to a nose-in. As this started, I tried to get it down as quick as possible, well gravity helped me out more than I would have liked. It has a 401 gyro on it and I allow it to "set-up" properly at the beginning of every flight. Not sure what went wrong. Help?

RU in heading hold mode?

If ur in HH mode then u shouldn't touch the trims on the TX once ur off and running. Look for any other signs of binding or a sticking pushrod that may have led to the sudden movement.

Just an idea

Slipping belt, bad servo?

I think it might be in the gyro. The belt seems fine and the servo is working normally. I'm still such a newb with helis, I have to confirm the gyro settings.

If it were the belt slipping, I think I would get erratic response from the tail with inputs. If it were the servo probably the same or less. What I was expeirencing was the heli trying to "correct" my inputs to head the opposite direction that I was inputting. I'm sure it would have hovered there just fine if I wouldn't have gotten so freaked out about the loss of control.

i think ur 401 is fine...

I had the same problem recently and im fairly new to the whole chopper community but i lost tail authority in the airwithout a drop in rpm and all the sudden i had to deadstick land, upon further inspection i found that my tail belt drive gear had stripped the white plastic head on the top of of the pulley connected to the belt, shaft is fine but tail pulley gear was destroyed if you look really close, if it failed you tail will not spin in spool up and that gear will rise off its set position, and check the cogs on your tail belt too, mine flys great again..

I was just talking to a friend of mine yesterday and it seems like he agrees with you. He mentioned a "pro-gear" upgrade for it. It replaces the plastic gear with and aluminum one that won't strip on the shaft. Anyone know what he's talking about and where I could get one?

Aluminum tail drive pulley

Yah the upgrade was a little hard to find but eventually i found it at a remote control hobby store you have to make sure that the teeth are the same on the bottom gear of the pulley and your main gear so they mesh together well, my pulley had 25 teeth on the bottom and ill could find were 22 tooth pulleys for awhile so make sure you get the right stuff, my kit came with a the alum. pulley system you need, plus a tail shaft with aluminum gear and an extra light blue gear to replace my bottom tail drive gear, was like 18.95$, anywho good luck
