Just to let everyone know, I have ordered a 50 pro and will post all my findings on this forum for the rest to find out. I did own a 30 pro and am upgrading to the 50. The 50 is a newly designed machine not just a 30 with a larger engine. It also has a driven tail. And the price, you can't touch it. Compare it to a sceadu. I'm not ripping on the sceadu. It is a good machine. I am just looking at the cost value; best bang for the buck. I will try to get my own web page, so I can take pics and share them with everyone. I also plan on reviewing the machine.
Just to give you some history about myself to know what I say isn't crap. I have been a real helicopter mechanic for almost 9 years, have my FAA Airframe and powerplant certificate and am also a real helicopter pilot. I have owned about every RC heli out their at one point and worked at a hobby store for almost 3.5 years and worked on just about every rc heli out there too.
The quick heli's are the most refined in terms of parts count. That is great for maint. and helps murphy proof the heli. There are enough things that can go wrong on a heli, and the more parts the higher the odds something will happen.
And those of you wondering about the service at HHI, it is great. I have delt with Irwin and the HHI crew since 1999 when I lived in Germany and had nothing but great service. I was just in Deland Florida 2 weeks ago for a giant scale airplane fun fly, and a gentleman crashed his cristian eagle do to a bad fire wall mount and Irwin gave him a new kit on the spot. Now that's great service.
I will get off my soap box now. Like I said, I will keep everyone posted on the kit. It should get it this week

50 head

In what way is there play in the blade grips and in the head mounting to the main shaft. If there is play in the grips in the horizontal direction, no big deal. Just give me some more details so I know what to look for.

i just got back frome H,H.I. ... We had to cut a notch where the head go's on the main shaft !! so it will close down on the shaft with no play !! (the new one's are fix !!!) with the blades grip, we'll still geting up and down play on them ??? so when i go invrt with the hali, the blade go's out of track .... With a litter work i'll get that fix too

Q50 Blade tracking

Hello James (1UP),

I think it is interesting when we asked you what you thought of the helicopter you said that it flew nice. No mention of the head sucking. Maybe we could have looked at the head with you and figured out what was loose or sloppy. All the helis here at the shop are nice and tight. I spoke to clark and his has no play either. All I am asking is why you would not ask us what we thought when we had the head in our hands?

Sincerely,
Jon Yuhas

I recieved my quick 50 pro today and upon examination i have to say the parts looked very nice.. I have owned and built every major helicopter on the market over the last five years, from calibers to raptors. This is a nice looking kit not taking in consideration the cost. In doing that its a fantastic bargain. I will build it over the weekend and will see how she goes together.. What people must keep in mind is all
helis have their issues. Before i go any further i currently fly fury extremes and vigor CS with ys91's both of which are great but not without issues.I will not name them. but they are well known..if its a machine its can have issues. If someone is looking for an affordable
machine, i think, this one just might be the ticket... In the 50 class you have raptors, voyager, ergo stretch jobs, quick 50, conquest, now discontinued, maybe some nexus or hawk or falcon or whatever they call
the 50 size and some i just cant think of at the moment. The voyager
comes the closest to quality and its in the same price range however the crash parts are higher. I got this heli just to fly the crap out of.....

Quick

Post your reviews when you get the Quick 50 kit. I like my Quick 30 pro so much that I was thinking about getting the Quick 50 or 60.

50 pro

I have finished buiding the kit. A piece of Art. I think HHI is going to have fun trying to outdo themselves with this kit. The instructions could use some small improvements, but the kit is awesome. I hope to test fly it tommorrow. I am waiting for a battery I ordered last week.
I can shoot you some pics if you are interested.

Q50

Yeah I hate the instructions and they would easily confuse a beginner. Let me know on the test flight and pictures would be nice.

I have test flown the machine. The OS 50 is a power house so you will need to load down the head with some extra pitch and take out alittle power with the throttle curve. The heli can take 620's. I have 600's. Once I break these I will try some 620's. The split gear is ultra smooth. Most heli's I have owned still spun the main gear a little during an auto. The quick 50 main gear just stands still. I am running 11+ and 11- on pitch with no problems with cool power 15. I love this 50. Cheep fuel compared to 30% and still has plenty of power. I did add .3mm shims to both blade grips to stiffen the head a little. The head is fine stock. I guess it is a matter of preference. I did not have any play in my grips like the 1up talked about above. Took the heli to the Fun Fly north of Tampa last weekend. I let my ama expire but let a friend John fly the machine. He did piro flips, and other aggresive manuevers with no problems.

Hey stranger, This is James here in Marietta, GA.

How is it going? (3DP told me you were in Florida)

Is Joel still around and flying helis? Or, does he just have a life? :-)

I guess we'll see you around.

PS. I finally took the discovery flight in a R22, and LOVED IT!!!
(I did very well, in fact)

We just had a funfly here in australia. I got to be the first on and only one to fly the only quick 50 in the country. Yes it is a pro. After giving the engine a couple of tanks to bed in i gave it a few 3d flights. I had no canopy on either. It has to be one of the best 3d 50's around. Also the speed it punches away at WOW. When i was looking at it i got a 26 degree pitch window. -13 to +13. My id2 curve was -11 to +11. It got its but into gear and performed some great 3d. The head is great on it. I had no problems with any parts on this heli. The tail is also super strong. With about a 20 knot wind i was at full pitch backwards downwind and that tail never looked like letting go. I also did the same flying sideways and couldn't make the tail let go. I did some 180 auto's with it and the tail feels as stong in the auto as normal flying.

The heli is a nice machine.

Regards

Marc

Quick 50 Pro in tree

Bad new gents. I just put my 50 in a tree. I can't tell you what happened. I was shooting some auto's when I lost all control. I think it could be do to a bad battery. I am cycling it right now to test it. I had just peaked it the night before and checked it before I went out. It was an older battery since I was not patient enought to wait for my new battery to arrive that I had ordered. So far there is only minor damage. 2 servo's stripped out, main shaft and feathering spindle. The main shaft is probably fine but it is not worth the headache if it isn't bent. The tial boom didn't even bend. The Quick 600 blades survived the tree crash which was amazing to me. The head speed was almost zero when it went into the tree. That's what saved the blades. O ya, the canopy got cracked up alittle. It's fiberglass though. A little filler and extra glass and it will be as good as new except the paint job is trashed. This even convinces me more about how tought the 50 pro is. Email for pics of the heli in the tree.
