Lord knows if and when I get good enough to hover inverted inches above the ground, if the blade touches by accident, I'm going to land and replace them... the risk is just not worth it.

It was never meant as a bitch. I was just stating that I consider it a SAFETY issue and wanted to have a discussion about it. Like someone saying that you should be aware of your transmitter strap hanging down when you lean over your heli. I guess some of the folks that think this is a good practice were offended and I appologise. I guess this has turned into something it was never intended to be but like you said, that's what forums are for.

Its really ok, after thinking this over a bit its a good thread. It is really something we all ought to think about a bit more and make sure that some bone-head doesn't show up at the field and pull some insane manuever like this in front of a crowd.

Sorry if I sounded harsh, I think my wife being deployed for 6+ months is taking a toll on me

You didn't sound harsh, in fact, I understand where you're coming from. I hope you get to see her soon, for all our sakes.

Just been reading some of the posts, Am new to Heli's and some of these points scare me, blade scuffing sounds highly dangerous to me,
i have no idea what the head speed for doing this is, but had found out that my heli running at 1600rpm the tip speed is around 238 mph,
dont get me wrong but if your scuffing your blades you got to be asking for trouble,

Real simple, there's a time and place for everything. If they're doing it with spectators close by then it shouldn't be condoned. But then again neither should simply hovering with spectators close by either. If they're doing it with spectators at a safe distance then it is no more dangerous than any other 3D stunt when one considers what happens when there is a mechanical, electrical, or pilot failure. Case in point, how many people here have seen what happens to a heli when it is simply hovering and goes into PCM failsafe and the owner forgot to set the presets, or the gyro or t/r servo fails? The point is, we shouldn't even lift off the ground if anyone is at an unsafe distance to the heli, period.

Well said, that is rule No. 1 for any model flying and cannot be repeated often enough. No exceptions!

blade scuffer = idiot

Do you suppose CY would do that to his machines?

Now I'm off to dough-nut my own car in the street - i.e. like hell I am, I paid for those tyres!
