Aerobatic 3D Contest > Who is doing piroflip with raptor 50???

I simply cant figure it out in real life, but on G2 I am fine.
The problem is that it won't flip over, like the roll rate is too slow???
I slowed down my piro rate, so it is around 1 turn pr. sec, but can't get it to work. I am doing what was recomended in the previuos posts about piroflips. Also just installed a cyclic limiter.
As I see it, the roll rate should match the piro rate, how do you do this setup???

Alan Szabo on the rap 50 vid. you are doing some fast piroflips- are you using stock paddles........do I have to change my paddles.

plz help.

R50 V1, with OS 50sx.

I am using SAB 600mm main blades and NHP 97mm tail blades. I also changed the paddles to X-Cell 3D paddles.

I set up dual rates to slow the tail down like you've done. I piro to the right, therefore I stir the cyclic counter clockwise.

I try to time the rotation of the tail with the stirring of the cyclic, and this seems to work for me.

Before attempting the piro-flip, practice piro right-side up and inverted. You will need to control the heli piroing in both orientation so be comfortable before doing the piro-flips - this will make them easier.

I am no expert in this maneuver, as I am also in the learning process of mastering this maneuver, but my R50 looks great doing them. Every now and again I hit the sweet spot and I can let hit hang doing these piro-flips for a pretty long time.

I need to master the direction of the heli while fliping to move into piro-loops etc.

Think about practicing piroing inverted to control the direction, and also right-side up.

Good luck.

Elvis

If you are flying a Rap 50V1 check your dampers; replace it for new ones.

I changed my dampers, last week I had a boomstrike because they were worn out! -but now it´s flying pretty nice....

I have noticed that a lot of people keep trying to find some kind or relation between the pirouettes and rotor disc's flipping speed or roll rate. Stop looking for a relation because there is none.

You can do piroflips where the heli pirouettes once per flip or 20 times per flip. The only relation you need to keep is the synchroniztion between the tail position and the stick position around the stirring circle. The number of piros that the heli will do per flip will be determined by the amount of deflection of the stick away from the center while stirring.

In other words if your stirring circle is small the heli will have to do more pirouettes to complete a flip. The more you deflect it the less pirouettes it takes to complete a flip.

Also the circular travel limiter won't help you doing piroflips. The limiter is only to prevent binding on the corners. Piroflipping using the circle as a guide is possible but not what it was intended for.

In this example you can see that the heli pirouettes about 10-12 times per flip. This is achieved by barely deflecting the stick away from the center while pirouetting. If you see Jason Krause doing fast piroflips at a fun fly you'll see he can even do about 15-20 per flip. Those are real pretty to watch. On Alan's video you'll see a lot less pirouettes per flip because his stick deflection is pretty large. I have seen him do them with a lot more piros per flip too. You can even take it to the extreme and let the tail describe a figure eight where there's only one flip per pirouette.

BTW to watch the video above you'll need to have the DivX codec installed otherwise you'll only hear the audio.

Hi

Well put. It’s a funny nut to crack this one. I’m definitely no expert at this, but I am having an attempt at cracking this one up to the chaos stage. I to just could not synchronise my cyclic with the rotation of the heli,

We were lucky enough to have Bob Johnston come to our field for a training day last year, that’s when we saw his hand movements for the piro flip/chaos...very busy going around with lots of cyclic deflection.
Since then I realise as long as the cyclic is synchronised with the rotation, a small input of cyclic will do more piro's per flip and vice versa

Perhaps you could try what I do for learning the pirouetting loop. Nice steady rotation to start, then use only forward and back smooth stabs of elevator to pull the helicopter over, using pitch to power the helicopter up through the maneouver.I works for slow pirouetting flips .

I have found as well that with the piro/flip , try to start the flip first by flipping up into wind , meaning to use the wind to lift the model up and then over.like you would a standard flip.

alway learning

Thanks for the good feedback...

My idea was to setup my heli as to complete one piroflip, while stirring with full cyclic deflection. What I mean is one piro + one flip to inverted and back to upright flight, with one stir at full deflection. I want to be able to do one piro per flip. is this still wrong???

You guys are pretty funny.

I am waiting for the inevitable mid-air boom-strike on the R50V1.

Hopefully, I will have my eyes open for this .
