Hoverfly II is a great little toy, I was laid up sick for 9 months last yuear and the only thing I got to fly was my trusty hoverfly, as a training aid its better than a simulator in that it is in real 3d right in front of you and will teach you most things except of course inverted! The mark two version with the carbon fibre rotor head is the one to go for, very tough little bird.

I did not see it mentioned in the previous replys that the hoverfly like other very small helis are rather difficult to fly compared to bigger helis.
For take off it is best to add throttle until the rotors are spinning without showing any tendency to lift off then quickly give it full trottle for take off. If the trottle is increased gradually the heli will most likely drift in some direction or roll over.
I can easily do nose in on a simulator but paniced when I tried it with the hoverfly. Now I can fly nose in most of the time but have learned that best recovery from panic situation is to cut the throttle completely even though the hoverfly is more that a meter off the floor. After I upgraded to carbon fibre rotor it survives drops from 1M most of the time.
I like the hoverfly and am having fun with it.

I do fly a Raptor 30 and panic recovery was (last summer) increase throutle (or wait until I could see what the heli was doing). I am hoping that the new habit of throttle cut will not carry on to raptor flying !!

Hi All!
Just caught this thread and talk about great timing! Our company (RC Modelsports Inc.) is now importing and distributing the new Hoverfly Prelude in the states. The Prelude is available with a Flightpad Tx and special Hoverfly/CSM simulator (SFT1000), or w/o Transmitter (SFT1001.
For more information on the Hoverfly, please visit our site (we advertise on the RR mainpage.
I have had one of these for about a month, and I am really having a blast with it! I flew one of the earlier ones a year or so ago, and they have really made some great improvements to this model.
I have been really impressed with how postive the tail response and gyro are, not something you would expect from a small model like this.
We also stock all of the replacement parts for the Hoverfly for current owners.
Our first shipment just arrived today, and we will be shipping kits out to our dealers on Monday. Feel free to contact me to find out which dealers will be getting these kits first.
As always, we encourage customers to shop from one of our RC Modelsports Inc. dealers first.
Please visit our website and let me know if we can be of help.

Thanks!

Is the Hoverfly wireless or is there a wire connected?

Also, Is the Prelude a newer version that the Mark ll Carbon?

I would love to get one of these. They look like they would be a great training aid. How far can you let the Hoverfly get from you during indoor flight?

re wire

Yes the hoverfly has a wire but it does not effect its performance, you do not even notice it when you are flying as you are so fixed on the heli. The new Prelude version is meant to be more stable near the ground although to be honest once the hoverfly 2 is trimmed out i find it very stable and would not wish it to be anymore so.

Thanks for the reply

Are you pleased with your Hoverfly so far?

I currently have G2, but would like to get a Hoverfly as well. I was thinking that the Hoverfly might help me to get a little better at nose-in, sideways, and transitioning from tail-in to nose in during a turn.

Do you feel that the Hoverfly works well for indoor practicing?

Hi, i think the hoverfly would be good for you to practice your transitions to nose in , it is very sensitive on the controls. One thing i would say is that you need a reasonable sized room as it can quickly get away from you and with a small room you havnt got much time before it hits a wall or TV. On the plus side its very robust, just push it together again and off you go.

Not that I have had experience with the Lama - I can see it performing better in flight - more stable, maybe better cyclic response but I really can't see how it could be more crash resistant than a Hoverfly. The rotor speed on a Lama seems to be way higher than the 250rpm of a Hoverfly and it also seems to be more intricate e.g. more shafts to bend, and gears to strip. I have crashed my Hoverfly into TVs, walls, plants, windows, people and dogs at full speed and 95% of the time I can put it back on its skids and start flying again straight away.

Is a Lama that crash resistant ?

Another thing I see as being an advantage of the Hoverfly is the ectremely thin control wire, which lets the heli fly around as if nothing at all is attatched to it.

What do you mean by "better built" and "better electronics" ?

Not an attack on the Lama or you... just curious about the pros and cons of these helis

Whats Up, I was the one who bought Hoverup's hover flies, it was good but the only thing I hated was the stinking wire. Even though there was a lot of it, it always would get curled up and the heli would take it up with a big clunk of umbilical dangling.

one MAJOR difference between the two... and this was the selling point for me...

The hoverfly allows you to use either their control pad, or your own controller. The other doesn't, the electronics are inside the "radio".

So, for me, I wanted to practice on my own controller, I love the hoverfly, it is EXTREMELY strong. Heh, altho, definately order more props.
