Usually ATF, but was at the field and all I had with me was the little grease packed that came with the rex.

#18 Locked up twice somewhere in the early 10 or so flights.. Unlocked by brute force both times.. First time it was removed from the airframe and inspected second time it was unlocked as it sat in the airframe. Have not had a problems since and there are so many flights on this bird I doubt she will do it again.
No cleaning, no ATF, nothing but unlocked and reflown

There are currently 137 Trex Nitros in the Counts post.

So far we have 18 failed one-way bearings, for a failure rate of 18/137 = 13%!

...so far

That is an excessive failure rate. For 1000 units, 130 would be defective.

For comparisons sake, a 6 sigma company would expect 3 failures for 1,000,000 units. I know that's a stretch, but it is a comparison nonetheless.

is it failed or is it not dear rocko.. Mine is not failed it had two faults.. Nothing more than having to reboot your system after a good gaming session I for one do not consider mine failed.. as it was not replaced nor cleaned, nor anything, just unwedged and flown again..

A few others here were reinstalled as well.. A failure is my book is beyond fixing, oiling, lubing, etc.

One-Way

Mine locked after 4 flights. Now it is locked after every flight. 600N basic, OS50 hyper, MP5. I am currently pursuing one-way upgrade options. The one-way determines whether or not I can fly my machine. It should have been engineered a little beefier in my opinion.

Guess i am #19.

Mine locked after 11 flights. It now locks most flights. After the first lock-up I cleaned it and used lithium grease. Didn't make any difference for me.

The general consensus regardless of heli brand is that the use of ANY type of grease is a no no......

That being said, there have been documented failures by folks cleaning them out and using a light coating of oil instead.....

Who knows what the answer is other than a defective batch of clutches....

Yea, I've read that too; but, the white lithium seems to be working for some of the guys here?

Good point.

Or you can consider whether or not it is a soft failure or a hard fail.

But then again, we all hate it when we have to reboot our computers, and would you be happy with a car that you had to pull over every once in a while to restart?

Brand new heli lubed with ATF and failed less within 5 flights.

2nd one way lubed with white lithium lasted about 5-6 flights, locked up for 1 flight, freed itself then immediatley locked again and has remained that way.

I will fly with this POS oneway locked until there is a resolution.

Rock... I have 3 machines with 0 soft or hard failures on the oneway. 0/3= 00.00% .. You have flown one of them and saw 3 or 4 flights on it.

jaxrotor,

Well, so far we are at approx 17% failure. So you are in the majority 83%.

Hope it stays that way.

I cleaned out all the red grease with alcohol and lubed mine up very good with ATF last night. Hope that works.

I wonder why the nitro has this problem and the electric doesn't. We E-guys run up to three times the horse power and have no issues with the same parts.
Also, I do not lube mine. My NIP spare is nicely pre-greased as all of mine have been. Aren't yours?
An E version locking up would be very bad. Brrr. The thought of trying to auto with my motor engaged. Scarry.

My surprise at how many people are for sale is only rivaled by my shock at how little they cost

Just a thought...

Can someone that has NOT had a problem mike his mainshaft ?? (edit: make that the sleeve)

Same thing with the folks that HAVE had a problem.....

Same thing with someone with the E version....

Would be interesting to see if there is a big difference in the dimensions....

There is a new sleeve #H60139 that replaces the 60018 sleeve.

What does the main shaft have to do with the oneway?

Rocko, 17% of people who reported they owned a Trex on the forum.. I had not posted mine in there I am sure there are more than a little over 100 Trex600N's flying in the world.

Agreed about the car analogy but the cool part is my heli hasnt needed a reboot since the initial soft failure. There fore it was a hiccup more like extra water in the gasoline of that car.

Should have said "measure the sleeves"

Sprague bearings are designed to operate within certain dimensional tolerances..... perhaps there is a bad "batch" of sleeves that fall short of the required tolerances......

The dimensions I requested may shed some light....

Or perhaps there is simply a bad "batch" of one ways....

You might be on to something there. If the sleeve was a little on the small diameter side seems it might let the needles run up too far and distort the cage.
