I had it in my box of goodies I picked up over the years. I have no idea where it came from. It is a standard 10mm ID thrust bearing set. The same type used in grips. Just a larger size.

I'll do some searching on line.

OK it's a 10mm x 18 mm ball bearing thrust washer. They cost about $15-$25 a piece depending on quality and where you purchase them from. I saw one at Ricks and some on ebay.

I used a Bergen split collar I had from a used parts sale but MSCDIRECT has them for $3.33 each.

It doesn't matter which side goes where. There is no component flexing that requires the ID size difference.

You guys, Mikado makes this and uses it on the Logo 14, you could buy that if you wanted to do this mod.

Logo14 uses two. One on top of the top bearing block using collar #2385 and #1329 (10 x 19 x 5) thrust bearing. The bottom one is sandwiched between the main gear and the tail drive gear #738 (10 x 18 x 5.5)

Set of two for $14.95

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

The bearing race with the smaller inside diameter must be against the collar. It will spin with the main shaft and centers the bearing assembly around the main shaft.

Basically I used the logic of how they are used in the blade grips with the smaller id going away from the "load". So I came to the same conclusion

Well then the smaller ID goes up against the bearing block. Learn something new every day. I used to think the large ID went "out" to allow assemblies, like blade grips, to give a little on the outside due to stress and flexing.

So
Hooty and some other collective group of logical thinkers discussed this at the ff. Small id goes toward the load , so small id on top bock faces the head, bottom one faces one way, so basically away from the collars. Thats our story, and we're stickin' to it!

BTW- Hooty, the one way loosened up and is spinning freely after that last flight. Can you bring some of that "Dupont Special Sauce " with you tommorrow??

Finally got the rest of the pieces.
Notice there is no collar up top.
Now all axial loads are carried exclusively by the thrust bearings. All the radial bearings do now is what they are designed to do.
A little anal bit this was fun to do.

BTW the grease I'm using is Dupont Krytox GPL 226. A little pricey

http://www.sandsmachine.com/grease_t.htm

Krytox® greases are made with various viscosity grades of PFPE oil that are thickened with special PTFE grease thickeners to match the performance capabilities of the oils. Various additives for corrosion protection, extreme pressure conditions, or antiwear improvement are added to some of the grades.

Basically almost 100% teflon
