| My AirThunder packs work nicely as well, and seem to perform just as well as my Thunder Power Extreme 2070 pack. As far as CG, I'm using the upper battery mount position on my Trex 450 V2, and if I move the AirThunder pack all the way back against the frame, the CG is perfect. With my other packs I mount them a little farther forward and the CG is perfect. So the extra weight of the AirThunder packs doesn't hurt my CG, but doesn't help either.
I'm not at a point with my skill level to care about the extra weight otherwise, and I like the fact that these packs don't get damaged if I discharge them a little farther than normal. I still fly on a timer with these packs though, since I don't want to get into incidents like your friend, where the heli loses power when I'm not expecting it. It's just nice to know that if I fly harder than normal on one flight and run the battery down farther than normal, I won't damage the pack. |
