My wife says the only reason God gave men brains bigger then a dogs is so we don't hump your legs in the grocery store. There may be some truth to that but some of us are trained better then others. Don't let the few stray dogs around here get to you as so many are well behaved and helpful...well most of the time anyway.

Happy flying and be safe.

thats funny

my wife said the reason guys were invented is cos vibes cannot mow lawns,

Sexist but funny.

my wife would not have the time to fly, one of us has to look after the kids and go out to work, although looking after kids is harder than a full time job

but that debate opens up a massive can of worms.

She learned to hover a counter-rotator, but it wasn't her thing. She likes to be involved, and she enjoys the social aspects, but she'd rather design custom yarns. Good thing, too, cause yarn sales keep the heli shop open.

Don't know what the fuss is all about,a woman on the flight line ,I watch the helicopter and see what is being done, don't think I have ever looked at a flier{that I don't know] and wondered what sex they were, all that interests me is how well does that PERSON fly.Could I learn from them.
Male or FEMALE keep enjoying the hobby as it is meant to be enjoyed

Excellent comment agree 100% in a world where so many people do their own thing, i would love to have my wife with me flying my hellie, i think it is great for the hobby, at my flying school Flyin Fish one of the guys girlfriends comes along MORWENNA BRETT - she does a few articles for Model Hellie World Mag, she is really nice, brings the mother touch to the field... really nice person, very intelligent, (leaves me standing) even though learning she builds her own hellies with Malcom her other half, and often will help out if she asked.

Good luck to her..

Didn't get any pictures. She finished the canopy and I went out and promptly nosed it in. I think it was jinx, or something. Had to re-kit the Sceadu after that crash.

My 11 year old granddaughter got interested in flying planes last summer. I started with a couple of RTF basic park flyer electics but those got old real quick. Built her a nitro DuraPlane trainer and she loved it. Also bought Aerofly Pro sim to learn faster on. Big mistake. She has gotten more interested in learning to fly the heli's than the plane's. Thinks heli's are just the coolest things there are so next summer she is looking forward to flying heli's. Bigger problem came out of the sim. I also got to flying the heli's (I can't even fly the planes) and now I have six that I can't fly but sure beating hell out of them trying. I just wish I could find a way for my granddaughter to get lessons in Arkansas so she would be ready to fly some when she comes to visit next summer. She thinks because she learned to fly the planes solo in a couple of trips to the field, she's going to do the same with the heli's.

Yeah it's gotta be a difficult or a bit weird for a girl to be in this kind of hobby. But I can't help but noticing that you're wondering too much as to what exactly this guy thinks or what exactly that guy thinks. This hobby isn't an all or nothing competition for for every guy, it's not even a way to show off for every person in this hobby. It's not even a competition, and it's not a way to say "I am better than you". It's fun. I think loosing this perspective is what causes this distress.

I am in it for my fun. For the time outdoors. I talk to guys who are like 10-15 years ahead of me, who were in competions and stuff, so what. There are things I am afraid of, there are things I am not. So?

Heck I wouldn't be surprised that there's a girl or even a kid flying a helicopter better than I do, so what, it's normal. May be she can teach me something. Should I be good at everything? Heck that's a lot of pressure :-)

For me it's a hobby. It's what I do for fun and it's a great fun. If I see a girl flying next to me, I would definitely be surprised, yes, pleasantly surprised, and I'm almost sure I will have a smile. But will this smile means that I am putting somebody down? Hell no. If you ask my opinion a person who puts somebody down has some issues :-).And what for? I think it's stupid.

I'd think: I fly for fun. She flies for fun as well. Let's fly together, if you wish, if not, fine.

And I remember I was giving advice to my mother on how to cook her cake, because I knew this oven better and had some good ideas about it. So? Is cooking a female only specialty? Some of the best cooks are male, some of the best aerobatics pilots are women. Check those aerobatical planes like SU-27, there's even a model in tower bearing a name of a woman champion. (Some of the best snipers are actually women)

I think it's all for the better. And it's not a competition. It's a hobby, it's done for fun, for pleasure.

(Didn't lionesses hunt better than a lion :-)?)

Do it for fun. And don't care what they think. (Most of the things you think they're thinking is not actually what they are thinking in reality)

uh.... so what are they thinking????????????????

Hopefully about me!
Not about flying.....

lol

Flame suit on.

(EDIT) and hopefully you're not thinking about flyin when some smokin hottness is around? (I would try to show off and digger in for sure) The other day on the way out to climb, I was telling some climbing friends how I'd never seen a female rope team..... low and behold what was at the spot? 3 women,(hot) on rope, on a 5.13B Just go's to show you never can tell......
Cope

I think the climbing scene is a lot tike that of the RC heli world, if not worse for ladies. Very macho and male dominated. But man... to see a women pull down through a hard problem more women should get into flyin helis/rock climbing.
I'll support/ spot for ya!

Just getting my lady friend into climbing, helis is out, waaaay to dorky for her

i dont under stand tho, They cost a lot of $?????????
They even have shiny expensive metal parts? ( like Climbing gear, jewelery, Same thing?,..No?)

I must have led a different life because I don't understand this girl thing. Until last spring, my granddaughter has lived with or near me since she was born and I have raised her as a kid, not a boy, not a girl. At eight years old, she was already a pretty good bass fisher, and was casting bait casters very well. At 10 years old she could cast dang near as good as me and was a dang good bass chaser. She's a darn good shot with a rifle and shot gun. She can drive the wheels off an RC truck she has. She drives my pickup (by herself), she drives my bass boat, she runs the trolling motor. She learned to solo RC airplanes in just a few tries. She's already wishing summer would get here so she can learn to fly heli's. I hope to teach well enough she can fly, crash and repair her own by the time she goes back to Arkansas. She is already pretty good with tools. Not once has there even been any issue of ginder. She did ask me last summer when at the RC field flying her planes why people kept looking at her kinda strange. I told her I quess it was because there were 118 memebers of that club and she was the only girl. She thought that was kinda neat also.

Treat as young adults, even at 10 years old, they are a hellavalot smarter than most give them credit to be, support their interest and you might be surprised at what all they might like do. None of this crap, that's not for girls, or girls don't do that stuff.

I think what may stop me is the fear of ridicule from other men. Some folks think women should be in the impound, or behind the counter making food-both of which I have no problems doing. I think they think women just don't know enough about the technical side of the Heli and what it takes to make it fly. Just my opinion based on somethings I have heard from BF.

The other thing is maybe most women don't want to cut in on their man's "guy time"-I know I suffer from that. Although I do feel it could be beneficial for us as a couple. Something to do together. But I do feel men need their space, just like we do and I don't like to intrude.

My BF deals with enough hostility for being a Heli Pilot in addition to his planes. It seems that most older folks and even some young guys don't care for Heli's. He is extremely patient, experienced and VERY talented. He is always very safe and is a great role model for other folks and other Heli Pilots or future Helimen. Recently their club is suffering from those making waves over now allowing heli's in the club...he is extremely frustrated! Any others dealing with this within their clubs?

That is mostly what keeps me off the field.

Don't ever let other people limit you in life. If you think you'll enjoy it, go for it. Some of the women at work ridicule my hobby, so what? Live your life for yourself, never mind the peanut gallery.
As for your BF, TALK TO HIM. He may be overjoyed about you wanting to share in his hobby.
The field problem is a little more difficult, but everyone here has found a way to make it work.

Folks, M and F,

I started this thread and now I would like to give you more about the young lady we taught.

We took her to another field with a group of real pro who only piro-flip at eye level, not higher than that. When they saw her arrived, they kept a distance from her ( out of shy, no kidding ) then seeing her hovering the Trex 450 tail in under very strong wind, they were amazed and then she started trying other orientation hovering, they all came by to coach her and help her ...

I do not see why this can not happen every where in the world. I hope this inspires a lot of girl to join this if they wish, there is nothing in your way, should the men in the field tease you, put more effort to show them what you can do, they just do not know that ...

Failing to plan is planning to fail
