e-HeliDirect Outrage - HDX 300-600 > Medusa 28-40-3400 in HDX 450 Question....

I just put in a Medusa 28-40-3400 in my HDX450 and it made a big difference from my 430L. I actually get 10min of flight time vrs. the 7-8 min with the 430L.

Heres the question. I am using an Align 35amp ESC with 6v bec. How do I get longer flight time out of this setup? I am using the mega power 20C 2100mah from Helidirect. I noticed that they got up to 126F after a run with the medusa. The medusa was about 175F with heatsink on it at 11T. I have a 7 degree pitch at midstick.

What battery will give me a longer run time? Im not doing any 3D yet. Thanks!

The medusa is a very unefficent motor but tons of power, im quite suprised your getting 10 minutes, what pinion are you running, you might try our 2200mah batteries.
the thing you have to decide is whether you want power or longer flight times cause you can't have both.

yes, more capacity mAh = more flight time.

Thanks for the reply. I am gearing torwards longer flight time for now. I wondered about hooking up some smaller lipos in parallel to get more mah but keep the voltage at 11v. Will that work out or should I go up to the 14v setup? I am currently using an 11t pinion.

Thanks.

Hey Jay, I have a Just go Fly 500TH that I will trade you for the
Medusa 28-40-3400, it is a powerful motor , but I hear the Medusa 28-40-3400 is more powerful, and I am looking for power!

I am still working with it to see what can be done. I changed out the HDX main drive and tail drive with an Align fan type and I think it is keeping it a little cooler now. I will do more tests to confirm.

Yup! Even Aligns main shaft works fine. You will need to reuse the small aluminum spacer that goes on top of the main gear where the main shaft goes in to get the proper spacing so the main gear doesn't rub on the frame. The brass one that comes in Aligns is too small. Other than that, yes it works great and seems to be more aligned with everything. The thing flew great without any slop.

No problem. Now if I could just get the right bearing combination in the blade grips so that I can use the Align spindles without shimming then I would be set. I had to remove the thrust bearing and just use the two outer parts of the thrust housing without the bearing to get the Align spindle shaft to work. Just wish there was a bearing that size that would be great.
