Got to fly and help set up a freinds 550 today...I've been watching this heli closely, as I think the 500 size may be ideal for most flying..
Heli is stock, using Gaui esc and motor, with two generic 20 C 2100 packs. Blades are the 500mm stock woodies, Heli is using separate batt and reg for radio power, standard size servos..
Here's the scoop....Heli flys far better than I would think...Not a powerhouse, but most 3D maneuvers are well within its reach..We tracked it, which wasn't easy as there was a twist in one blade...Hovered it for about a minute...Trim was right on, so we went back for fresh batts..
Lifted off, flew around one circuit, all's well... Idle up, hs now at 1940..eerily quiet, like a 450 Rex with a muffler..
Loops, rolls...no sweat...Tic tocs, all day..Inverted, tail slides, backward flight, tail is rock solid...Remember, this is the First flight on this heli..pitch is a little slow, roll about right..Now we start the autos...VERY nice! Not a 50, but much better than Lepton..All on the so so woodies!
All in all, a formidable heli..I'd like to see one built with a bec to eliminate the separate battery, and find some way to get 94761 servos to fit..then put on a pair of 3200 25C lipos... Big thing to me is we flew for 7 minutes on two T rex packs...We're no Szabos, but we flew it fairly hard, and did three really high autos. Batts were same or cooler than a typical Rex 450 flight, the motor not even warm.. If this is the start of what can be done with this size machine, we might get 8 minutes of 3D, good auto capability, and a reasonably sized quiet heli all in one package. Sign me up.
I note that ReadyHeli has a short boom conversion,a high performance motor, and a metal head assy. already...Let the games begin!
I hope Align is watching...Looks like Jason & Co. has a way to go to beat this one!
