It was alot of work to get here but it's really easy once you do.

I thought flying autonomously was illegal in the US

I thought you could only fly autonomously if it was line of sight flying and something like not over the horizon.

Airplanes are for guys with one dumb thumb...

Posted 1.5 months ago and nothing since. No mention of the firmware or hardware used. Sounds like it was a lucky hover in no wind but nothing reproducible. Happens all the time.

Welcome to the reality of research and development.

I have the job of converting two Bergen Observers into fully autonomous aircraft (takeoff to landing) in the next three months.

I will, of course, be using off the shelf components for this project. I'm also hoping for a little luck, as this will be my third aircraft conversion and first helicopter conversion.

Sorry, not to get back sooner but the team won the level one competition in Georgia and are on the way to levels 2 and 3 for next year with a bigger and more powerful machine.

The system was a Rotomotion flight package. The obstacle the company provided I felt where next to impossible for the advanced pilot to deal with for a realistic direction. But anything in this direction is going to be expensive and time consuming on any degree.

P.S. I never said this was done in the US.

Just so happens I watched a HUGE turbine heli fly at a local field here in Huntsville yesterday. The second flight was totally autonomous. It was pretty cool to say the least. Never seen a 48lb heli fly before. The 2 guys flying it, Mike & Rob, are from a local robotics company and were very happy with the speed at wich they were working out the programming.

I have pictures and 15sec video on my phone if someone wants to PM me, I will e-mail it to you.

Stick bangin' cuz my hands are shakin' !!

According to the Neural Robotics patent, they have to mount the helicopter on a test stand and repeatedly tilt it to train the neural network. Must be quite a test stand and U can appreciate why they don't talk about it.

I have seen NRI's patent for their system for sale on ebay a couple of times within the last month. The catch is you have to sign a waiver saying you will not use their autonomous coding to develop systems for helicopters or something like that. All this for starting at $50K.

Hey okiefamr,

The pictures I sent you are in fact an NRI bird.

I wish I could afford the NRI. Better yet wish they would sell their system like Carvec does. I have been looking at Carvec and MicroPilot's
MP2028LRC. Their systems are a little easier on the pockets and you can add on as you can and not 30K + all at once.

It is remarkable that he started trying to sell patent rights in addition to the autocopters on Ebay, all in such a short time frame. U can make up all the complicated explanations for it you want, but like dot com boom 1.0 , the simplest answer is probably right.

I do believe you are correct about that. I think I would of discounted my items and try to increase sells before selling my patent.

You get what you pay for. In my opinion anyway.

I'm not saying their system is bad. It's just easier to buy a core system, and then later add on the GPS system. A little here and a little there. It would be easier for me to buy a system like this . I wouldn't be able to afford to pay 30k + all at one time but maybe others can. If I tried to dig that deep in my pockets I would be accused of playing pocket pool.

If I had the money, their system would be one of the top ones I would be looking at to purchase.....
