Thanks. I will look futher into it to see if it is something I want to get. It is just a little more expensive than the other stabilizer units, not counting the GPS setups.

I'm setting up a Helicommand in a Raptor 50...Is it recommended to use the heli command's yaw gyro in place of the 401 that is already in the machine?
...or do you use the 401 in conjunction with the Helicommand?

It looks like a neat system but the instructions leave a lot to be desired

HS servo on the tail required...

Heli Command will replace the need for a 401 or any gyro for that matter. The units that we have set up we did use a 9254 servo on the tail.

Does it act as a stabilizer as well, meaning that if heli starts rolling due to the wind will it compensate for that automatically and prevent the heli from rolling?

yes, its got a three axis gyro that would try to compensate for unauthorized change in attitude.

Question for the Quick guys testing the Helicommand...

Were you able to get the good results with the default settings and just using the gain settings using the "pilot" line for the cyclics or did you have to use the PC interface to fine tune it to get acceptable performance?

I installed, set-up & tested a unit in a customer's Raptor 50...It worked OK...that's as good as I'm willing to say it did

The customer didn't get the PC interface, so all I had to work with was the basic set-up and the gain setting for the cyclic... I didn't use the tail gyro function as of yet...I wanted to deal with getting the ail, elev, coll sorted out without having to worry about the tail...

Sorry if this takes the thread too far off it's original topic...Please let me know if this all covered in another post..

You must have PC interface or you can never fine tune the set up......Default setting are only a starting point..every machine will vary...

Now we are including the interface FREE with either the basic or Rigid advance Heli Command...

Thanks guys...I guess I'm going to recommend my customer get the PC interface..Does the PC interface allow you to adjust the gain of the different "axis'" separately?

It seemed that the elev & ail needed different gain levels...

Are you sure? It says Serial. USB through another adapter, or is this serial to USB adapter included also?

Jay1,
I have the spartan, if I could do it over again I would go for the helicommand.

Does anyone have any pictures of the HeliCommand unit installed on a Raptor 50? I have ordered a HC3A and would like to find some ideas on how to mount it on my Raptor.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I read some posts further up about the unit not being able to stabilise in bigger heights yet. THIS IS TOTAL NONSENSE... sorry for my directness
You have to distinguish between the two modes, horizontal and position mode:
- Horizontal mode works in any altitude and of course "saves" (levels) your heli also in more than 3m above ground level. In fact it needs more than 3m, otherwise your heli would crash before being leveled by the HC again.
- Position mode is the function holding the heli in position over ground (additionally to the paralel active horizontal mode). This function only works up to 3-5m (depending on the contrast of the surface below) and automatically deactivating itself (switching to horizontal mode) when "blind".

Ok, so much for the moment. Just wanted to get that clear.

Cheers and have a great day,

Joe

I have used helicommand 3d and the FMA fs8. The helicommand is useless for 3d. It doesn't recover fast enough, Even says somewhere in the manual that it's unable to recover from continus 3d moves. Another down side you will need the software as it's a big pain to setup without it. For 350 uk pound they should include the software.

The FS8 which uses the ir sensors is a lot quicker in recovery.
Easier to setup and cheaper. The down side not much good in cloudy conditions and will drift if objects are near. Note also FMA cpd 4 doesn't work with ccpm setups you need the FS8.

Mine was setup on the trainer switch of an Futaba ff9. This enables the fs8 or helicommand to be off and easily trigger on via the spring load switch on the tx. This worked very well when in trouble but the helicommand took to long to react from gain completely off to 75% on. Fs8 worked in a blink of the eye. (Even inverted).

So for fast recovery from 3d moves go for FS8 or spantan. For AP Helicommand wins hands down.

YOU! Ain't spending anymore money on heli's this year!
