Hi all,

Had a shock a few weeks back ... I agreed to help a lecturer at my Uni get his Walkera (shudder) helicopter up and running. I was holding it in my hand whilst testing out the functions on the transmitter (DAMN FOOLISH of me ) when suddenly the motor BURST into life. A few seconds later I was able to unplug the battery pack. It was only then that I realised there was a small bundle of hair in the tail rotor ... it had torn some of my girlfriend's hair out (as she was sitting near me at the time)!

Weeks later this incident still makes me feel very very guilty inside .... ok so it was only hair .... what happens if it had hit her (or me) in the face?? ..... doesn't bear thinking about

Respect ALL helicopters, regardless of their size. And if you aren't familiar with how a model works, weight it down, or remove the rotors prior to testing it out.

I was extremely foolish, as I normally consider myself a very safe flyer/modeller (been flying for 9 years) .... it was my impatience to test it out that made me ignore basic safety procedures

good thread david, I think that we will always need these threads to keep reminding us of the need for safety. Complacency hurts...

The older I get, the better I was

Nope I was holding it in front of me and she was nearby ... and she was rubbing her head when the rotors stopped .....

Makes me shudder just thinking of it

I was completely baffled by the operation of that helicopter .... after this happened I haven't touched it since.

I have a Venom 3DXL (walkera 60 rebadged) and have had nothing but glitches from the start including sudden full throttle. Those radios just don't work.

PS, I took the brushless motor, esc, RX, servos, RX and TX and put them in a boat for my 9yr old son and they still glitch. I'm going to get a TREX 450 and a good radio and gyro. I regret buying this, it set me back a year at least.
