Pretty impossible to see from that shot...
Camera's drawback is that you cant see depth, but since camera is that much out of focus on the people, its probably further away then you think.

Plus he has a caller, so I suspect it to be an event or so, its up to the pilot then.. (away from any other)

Safety is all in the eyes of the viewer. I've seen many many 3d routines that don't look "safe" Anytime a bird is 5 feet off the deck and out in front of you, there is going to be risk. I've had one of my helis throw a blade while in a hover about 50 feet away from me. The blade went over my head and then on for about another 30 feet or so. I thought I was being "safe", but it could have turned out to be very unsafe..

from the illusion I guess it seems like it was no more than 6 feet. But what really gets me is how calm they are. Especially with a 90. Im sure there professional pilots, but Ive seen to many mechanical incidents.

Probably more like 30-50 feet...

Check RR-TV section, 3D master last year, you will see ALOT of these shots.

Now find that video of the person and look at it and you will see the distance...

What's up with people pouring thru other people's galleries and picking out ONE picture and bringing it to the "SAFETY" forum?

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=6006110

An many more times here on RR.

well if runryder advertises a gallery picture on top of the site that looks like that. Im sure it will spark some debate or at least some curiosity. Isnt the gallery for a purpose?

If post like these induce more saftey awareness in this hobby, Im all for it.

In this picture the heli, could have been infact been maby 50-60 feet and may be "safer", if it just reminds people to be safe. I think its well worth it.

Those are the Szabos and that photo rocks. And if taken with a telephoto (which distorts depth of field) there could be easily 60 feet between them and the heli.
