| The linksys folk are wrong. Even if you did want to bother with setting up the DMZ, you would need to have more than one IP address, and Rogers won't give that to you.
Also, dynamic addressing isn't the problem. If you took away the linksys and just posted your actual IP (even dynamic) it would work. You don't need to have a static IP, because the dynamic IP probably doesn't change very often.
Your problem is using what's known as 'private address space', in that your home uses one set of ip address, and the rest of the the world uses another, and the linksys box translates (also known as Network Address Translation, or NAT). Everyone who uses a linksys-style sharing device has their own private IP network. That's fine when you initiate the connection (as in Email or Web), but it won't work if you need to receive connections (such as hosting G2, or hosting an FTP server, or videoconferencing, etc...)
So, to summarize this incredibly boring letter.... Static/Dynamic doesn't matter so much as global vs. private IP address. You can use you setup if you ditch the linksys box.
