Dabling Heliman Location: Studio City, California
| I never thought I'd personally own a 50 size heli but thought I'd give this one a go. I gotta say this absolutely the best 50 nitro heli I've ever flown. The power to weight ratio is is better than any other 50 size nitro heli out there. The agility and stability of the 600 is next to none.
The build is super fast and extremely easy. The clutch fix is simple to do. Use one Raptor ninety liner or two raptor 60 liners cut together. I simply used flexible CA and it seems to be holding up very well. You could probably fly with the stock liner but I'm a fan of the clutch having a larger contact patch to the clutch bell. By changing it out, the shoes don't have to spread out as far. This keeps clutch fatigue down to a minimum.
I keep reading about magnets popping out. You have to drill a small hole in the fan so the flexible CA can escape when the magnet displaces the glue. If you don't drill the hole, the glue creates a hydraulic lock and wont allow you to seat the magnet in all the way. Once it's in properly, it shouldn't come out.
The fact that the canopy comes painted is a very nice welcome. How much easier does it get. I would probably glue in my next set of grommets because the canopy tends to cut into them. Maybe by gluing them in, you'll get a little longer life out of them. The radio tray is one of those little things that just makes absolute sense. Enough said.
I always add a little locktite to the inner race of the bearings on the tail transmission and the starter shaft. I've found in the past that sometimes the shaft (depending on the fit) will spin inside the inner race of the bearing causing RF noise and metal wear. Just be careful not to get locktite in the bearing itself.
I usually take apart everything the factory put together to make sure everything has locktite and is sucure. I began to take the tail grips apart but once I found that they had put it together properly, I just left it alone. Of course, build all the other parts properly since they are just kind of pre assembled from the factory.
I'm running 9252 servos a 611 gyro a gv1 governor with a Futaba 12Z OS 50 with an older MP. I'm going to try out a JK muffler here shortly to see what the difference is. I do prefer the older MP to the New MP5 though.
Quality control is probably as good as it's ever been in the field of RC Helicopters. Of course a few things here and there could always be improved but every company has room for improvement. Remember these helicopters aren't for the regular Joe shopping at Walmart or Target. You have to have a bit of mechanical aptitude in this hobby to be successful with it and get the full enjoyment out of it. Besides, tinkering and modifying to your taste is half the fun anyway.
There's a lot of good 50's out there. Align, JK, and all the staff, thanks for putting together a great 50. |
