Main Discussion > Main gear mesh tight, why?

What would cause the main gear mesh to get tight after a minor crash? The main shaft is OK, motor moved out of the way to get it out of the picture. Mesh is tight on EVERY tooth when I cycle it by hand. Open for suggestions before major tear down. Thanks

What helicopter? What kind of minor crash? I have an old school Baron 20 that cries if everything isn't aligned perfectly, and you have to align it the hard way, none of this plastic framed jigging. What gear is the main gear rubbing hard against, the clutch bell gear or the tail rotor gear. Try loosening all the associated bearing blocks for the bell, the mainshaft, and the tail rotor. See if it frees up.

PS, after you loosen them, line them up, and tighten them....

Gear mesh?

After I pulled my head out of you know where I found and extra wrist in the rear rotor drive belt. Thanks for the help.
The bind would come every time the main gear would have gear mesh, got sucked in on that one.

Typo error

Make that twist in the first message, not "wrist"

No biggee. I agree with you, it is way easier to give free advice to people give details. BTW, the specific answer line is my signature, not free advice for you. Hope this clears up anything we did or didn't have.

Thanks, John Cadwell

I don't know what you mean by "specific answer line is my signature, not free advice". If that is the case, forget that I was on this RunRyder, I can find info from other people!!!!

THis is mushrooming. It seems like a lot of people come in and ask questions like "what blades should I get" or "what gas is best" without mentioning what heli they have, or what their skill level is. That is fine, it just makes it harder to help, which is what I like to do. I was a rank begginer not long ago, and am still learning. It makes me feel good to be able to help other people with things I can, because I got a lot of help. It is much easier to reccomend what to do about gear mesh if you know what bird it is in, and then the experts on that heli, that actually know what they are talking about can do their magic.

That 'specific' comment (BTW, the specific answer line is my signature, not free advice for you. Hope this clears up anything we did or didn't have.) was NOT directed to you, JKramer. It was directed at Bladerunner. He apologized for not looking at your profile. I wanted to clarify with him that I was not giving him a hard time, so that he didn't read my signature and think I was harassing him, and to make sure the waters between us were clean, because he has given me a lot of help, and is a great asset. I didn't intend to insult or offend you in any way. I hope you can understand this, and continue to visit hear, because it is a valuable resource. It is unfortunate that sometimes comments get intrepreted in ways that they were not intended. Hopefully this clears things up. Sorry to have stepped on any toes. Thanks.

Thanks, John Cadwell
