Another case of for some it works for some it dont.. Each facet of this hobby has those that support this and that.. For me Hayes works for you it dont etc etc.

hehe sorry DrDan but I had too.. BTW I love your tag line except for the fact I use very effective foilage killer on anything that grows through cracks in the concrete

I had Hayes clunk line expand and come off also. I had to do a quick auto. The engine cut off as soon as the level in the tank got below the nipple. I was pissed as hell since I still has so much fuel left. I then took a piece of fuel tubing and slipped it over the hayes line and haven't had a problem since.

Am I the only one who won't build a tank without a safety wire to clamp the internal lines on? I have always done this, and have never had a clunk line come off - Hayes (my current standard, for 4+ years) or otherwise . . .

(On my YS powered birds, with the pressurized fuel system, I safety wire or clamp EVERYTHING . . . . ).

tadawson,
you are a dying breed haha Sorry man I couldnt resist.. I do not tie my internal lines as they are at equal pressure.. On the other hand I do tie all my external lines on all my crankcase pressurized systems YS etc.

Any difference between the Hayes black tubing and the Dubro black tubing?? We have Dubro at our LHS.

I bought the Hayes black clunk line last year after an inverted flameout due to the pink prather line not flexing to the top of the tank. I've always put an 1/8" of fuel tubing 'clamp' around all my connections. I have had one of these fuel tubing clamps break inside the tank -. i think it was nicked wrong when I cut it. Other than that this setup is working for me.

I will say that I think the important part is to make sure the natural curve of the fuel tubing is pointing to the top of the tank. That with a heavier but secured clunk has made for a reliable fuel system for me this year.

...yep...

The Hayes tubing is FAR more flexible. I bought a small package of the Dubro tubing (I thought all neoprene fuel lines are the same) and was very disappointed. The Hayes would flex more with a standard clunk than the Durbro with a heavy clunk.

I used the Hayes for many years, but in the recent years I have switched to silicone again. The pink Prather is great outside of the tank but way, way too stiff for a clunk line.

I run the soft silicone like the Hirobo stuff that comes with the tank. I also run about 6" of it in the tank. This lets the clunk fall wherever it wants. Try it, it works. Ummmm, that means a REAL 6". Not your 6".

I took a used tank apart and found wire pieces laying inside the tank. Corrosion must have taken it's toll on the wire. I use a good flexible silicone nitro line.

I think part of the equation that's missing in the posts is, What % of nitro do you use in your fuel? I've found that 30% takes a heavier toll on clunk lines than 15%. I use the Prather Medium everywhere with no problems. Yeah, it's stiff in the main tank, but I run a header tank to give me a solid fuel supply. I was about to use the Hirobo tubing that came with the Evo 50, but felt it was too small in diameter. I have heard, though, that it works great. I just haven't tried it. I change my clunk line every 3 months as cheap insurance. Yup, I use 30% CP and have had the clunk line soften up a number of times.

The Hirobo line works fine . . . right until it turns to mush, and collapses, which seems to happen far too soon . . .

Doesn't the Hayes line come in two flavors ?? One designed for nitro and the other for gasoline ?? I have no experience with either but perhaps the ones having problems have the wrong type.....assuming that the above statement is true....

Aerotrend standard (medium?) is: 3/32"id x 7/32"od

Guys what if one was to use the same fuel line for the clunk that is used from the header to the carb? Perhaps the needle settings would need to be changed but other than that?

Just checked my hayes line yesterday. they where a little bit longer than when I installed them last winter but, they were still pretty tight

No muffler pressure running on 20% fuel 20$ oil.

I ordered some small Aerotrend blue line today. I'm going to try that before trying the Hayes.
