Aerobatic 3D Contest > How to become good at 3D

Just wondering what steps I have to take to be a good 3D pilot, what do I need to practice and in what order. I basically fly myself most of the time with nobody to show me what to do.... mostly airplane guys around here! I can fly helis fairly well but find myself figuring out what to do next and I feel this is slowing progress. Where to start! I was going to start all over with piro, inverted stuff like that. Many things I can do but inverted I still have to concentrate hard to do it. My guess is you must perfect the simple things and do them without thinking before you move on? Thanks.

my 3d learning schedule....

proficient in all orientations..

Fig 8's both directions (away from flight line, to flight line)
Upright and Inverted
Standard aerobatics..
Loops (Staionary)(Climbing and Decending)
Rolls (Staionary) (Climbing and Decending)
Imelmans
TickTocks (Climbing, Decenting, traveling, etc.)
etc.
Slow Piros clockwise counter clock( in all orientations and in same spot)
Autos everywere any direction and orientation
backward flying ( 8's in both directions)
Invert (8's in both directions and forward, Backwards)

Do all the basic stuff in all orientation left and right sides of you, etc. Get this stuff down first, then go for the agressive 3d stuff.

It's a lot of work and I have been told to fly the sim and burn fuel and get this right. It's working and I am happier flying instead of crashing.

FWIW:
I pushed too hard early on and stuffed 3 helis in 3 days and stuffed a couple of synergy's trying to much to early.

Went back to the basics and found out that my skills were weak in several basic areas, not that those skills are more rounded it's easier to go to more stunts.

Good luck, and take the time to get the basics down cold, will save you $$$ in the long run.

yep. what has helped me more than anything is putting 30-40min of stick time in every day. double that on sim time.

I just started again on the sim, it has been raining lots here lately so thats all I have! I really have to practice my inverted stuff, boy I suck there! I started on the figure 8's and now that I am trying to do them "nice" it is harder.... gonna need lots of practice to get things crisp!

Yep practice practice muscle memory is the key.

Orientation is the hardest part. Get it right and everything else follows.
