Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Remote Glow

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry if this is going to be a stupid question but I am new to R/C Heli's.

I am almost finnished building a Raptor 30 but I have got to the point of installing a remote glow. Does anyone know where it is best to put it? Some people have said just make a hole for it (but where? ), I do not just want to make a hole in the frame in case it weakens it!

Any advise will be greatfully received!

Thanks

remote

Mine is mounted on the bottom engine mount bolt. It provides a good ground and is conveniant location.

iff it's the 1 wire model, then the aluminum 'bracket' has to contact
the engine itself.

Most everyone just removes the lower engine/frame bolt and installs
it there

Mine has 2 wires. 1 needs to be earthed (which I have put between the engine and the engine mount) and the other connects to the glow via a clip, on the other end is the remote glow with a thread which needs to be bolted to somthing (ie frame) and the other end of the first wire is bolted to the remote glow like a washer.

It sound complex but is very simple. I just do not know where to fix the physical remote glow.

Thanks

depending on which exact remote widget you have, you should be able
to remove that 2nd wire as long as the body is in electrical contact w/ the engine

I had the two wire type and mounted it on the lower part of the stancion for the skid. The ground wire went to the lower engine bolt. For the connector I drilled a hole in the stancion, and attached. It is an OK placement and keeps you from flying with the glow starter attached as it is right there on the side of the heli sticking out. Very visible.

Thanks Mike!

I will have a look when I get home! I just didn't want to start drilling holes in the body (in the wrong place!) and making it weak (just in case it has a heavy landing!)

Here is a picture of a bracket I make for the raptor 30 it holds the remote glow and a 2 oz header tank. Notice the rubber bands on the landing gear. I put thom on the gear to keep them from spreading out while it's setting on the shelf.

I know my 2 cents isn't much comming from a Nesus owner but I used a 2 wire remote glow and mounted it on my new home made landing gear. If anyone wants to know what the gear is made of it is just airplane landing gear that I made to be perfect. I have hit the ground HARD several times and they bounce back.

Back to the origional poseing.

I mounted mine so that it is pointed tward the right so that after starting the engine from the usual Nexus front, I then can unplug the glow starter.

Well I am done ratteling!

Just a side note, if you are using a one piece remote glow and mounting it on the lower right engine mount bolt (which most do), do not put blue locktite on that bolt. I had 6 months of headaches with remote glows...could never keep a consistent ground, tried every brand of remote, finally someone at a funfly pointed out that the locktite does not conduct and was messing with the ground. I have never had another problem since I removed the blue loctite from that one bolt....Bill

Chopper Dude,

Glad you mentioned the blue locktite deal. Now I know why I am having so much trouble getting a good connection to my glow plug
