I am about a third of the way through. So far so good. I must admit I am pretty impressed with a few of the features, such as the size of the feathering shaft and the swash plate. There will be some work required on the clutch and fan.

here's what I did:

I was out of the magnets that come with the Revmax, Sooooo...I went Radio Shack and bought up some 1/8th Rare Earth Magnets. Naturally, they were not the same size as the counter sunk holes in the fan( Off to the drill press). I used a 5/32 drill bit to widen and counter sink the fan a little deeper, at least one person I know had the magnets rub on the inside of the fan shroud, so I made sure mine were flush.

clutch

I removed the clutch liner that was installed, and Dixon Lopez slipped me a JR liner (part#jrp970080). I rapped clutch shoe with blue fine line tape(three times around) and used JB weld to install the new liner, I then stuffed the shoe in the bell and let the JB weld dry. End result is a .011 gap. should be good to go.

I also surfaced the fan and the engine fan mount with 600 grit sand paper, the fan mount had some micro burs that were not allowing the fan to sit flush. Use caution not to over tighten the screws that hold the fan to the engine fan mount or you will warp the fan.

Other then that, every thing fits flawlessly so fare. I started monday night, I will be up on skids before bed tonight. I have about 6 hrs. invested, 3 of witch was the fan and the clutch mods.

Thanks guys. It seems the clutch liner is a must do modification. How will the blue liner by thunder tiger work?

Just do it.

It's not a must do modification. I have one of the first kits with about 3 gallons through it on the stock clutch. Mine engages somewhere around 1/8th on the throttle, and works perfectly. It's actually kinda nice that it engages a bit higher than most other helis, it lets me clear the engine out without the blades spinning.

I am also running the stock clutch just the way it was from the factory. I have, over 2 gallons through it with no issues and no change in it's performance.. I think the later engagement just has people worried there is something wrong vs there actually being something wrong. It is not the norm for sure, it is way different than I was taught and way different than anything else I own, but I decided to give it a shot since this is how the kit came. So far it's a non-issue other than peoples perception and one or two broken clutch shoes, not a pendemic if you ask me.

The fan will need to be replaced with something aftermarket and stiffer. I have one of them on the way.. The clutch is fine like it is. It is just different than everyone is used to.

i have the original in mine also its just fine. everyone on the synergy side also complained about the clutch engaging in higher rpms and also theres no problem there ,maybe jason has a good reason for doing it that way, like Eury said it helps you clean out the motor before loading it up....

Therefore, the bottom line is there is no compromise in performance. Am I right? If the mod worth the effort, I might as well do it.

Boothie,
You should go to sleep now. Good job.

I threw two magnets right away. So far the third is holding or is it the fourth lol.. It held up against a complete day of bashing. It is deffinitely something Align needs to address, I am sure they will as they have every other shortcoming so far.. I also have a 3dx fan on it's way. A guy Rob Roy at our field has Nitros and has only thrown a magnet as well. It was cool to watch one dribble out though. They dont come rocketing out like you would expect So far there are only magnet and fan issues at our field. The rest will be identified with more time on the machine..

Just got mine too!!

It's so pretty. My boyfriend said he got the last one (White Canopy) from Mac at HodgesHobbies in Georgia. He ordered it last thursday and I picked it up this past Tuesday. That was a really nice Surprise to say the least! It usually takes about 8 days or more to get anything in these parts. So, thanks Mac!!! You are great.

I plan on starting the build next weekend when my Hyper and MP50 show up. I am putting a Trex450 together right now, but I can't Wait.
This is what I will be running:
14MZ Tx
Fromeco Reg 6v w/pin
4000mah Duralite Rx pack
9351 Cyclic
9252 Throttle
GY611/w matching tail Servo
GV-1 Gov
2mm FRP frame set
V-Blade 600mm
V-tails 95mm
V-Paddle 80mm
O.S. Hyper 50 w/ MP50 pipe
JR Clutch Liner ( I heard the one that is installed is pretty crappy)
Most of this stuff I had stashed for a 90 heli that prolly will never show up. I wonder if I can get my deposit back?(thinking out loud) But, at least I finally get to use it.

Is any one else running this set up?
This will be my first full Futaba set up so I will be asking a few questions about how to setup the 14MZ. I hope to have it up and running in two weeks. I wish is was sooner ,but school and work have to take priority.

A woman that not only flies helis, but picks good equipment too. If you EVER decide to come to the US, you have a standing marriage proposal.

Seriously though, that will be a ROCKIN' setup. My only suggestion would be to consider using a slightly smaller pack. Those packs are pretty beefy compared to something like a 2s 2400MaH pack. Lighter is almost always better IMO.

Vaigod,

You are probably right. That pack did seem to be a bit heavy for a 50. I figure I will try it out and see how the heli feels. This pack was originally purchased for the new 90 that was to release last year. That didn't happen so I wanted to get some use out of all this nice new stuff. I've always wanted a 90, but if this Trex N does what I expect it to, I might not need one.

As for your Standing proposal, I will keep that in consideration. I hope to return the the States within the next 3 years. I don't really know for sure though, you know how the Military is.

Are you flying 3D, or are you doing FF? The weight wont be nearly the same issue if you are staying upright all the time. If you are flying aerobatics though, you will have to make some sacrifices with the neutrality of the CG.

I use a 4800 pack on my Raptor .50 and it sure is a bit heavy even for that beast. The 5000 that is on my Raptor .90 seems just about right though.

I do alot of 3D, I just don't feel like waiting on another part to get here. I just want to fly it right now. I do plan O flying light packs in it though.

I know what you mean. I've been there a thousand times, unable to fly because I'm waiting on some (usually extremely small and mundane)part that keeps me out of the air. Once you get it in the air, let us know how much forward CG you have. I'm very curious.
