I have screwed around with this CP Hornet on and off for months ready to throw it in the trash can. In any type of hover wether ground effect or not the tail starts to rotate at either a slow or high speed rotation around in a circle...unflyable. Anyone have any suggestions ? I have read other posts and find nothing I've tried which corrects my problem. I have a Futaba GY240. Problem is the same wether in HH or Non HH. I am using a berg reciever. Otherwise the rest of the Hornet is pretty much a stock CP type hornet. Any idea on Radio Setup for Futaba 9CHP might help if you could email or post it here.

I'm not a newbie...currently flying other Nitro Machines without these problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...!!!

Spinning Hornet

Hi

I just had the same thing happen to me. Since my gyro didn't have a reverse switch on it I had to come off the other side of the servo with my control rod. Then I had to reverse the servo through my radio. Now it doesn't spin like a top, but I can't get mine to hover more than a inch or so off the ground.
Hope this helps.

Tried That

I tried the Flipping the Gyro Reverse Switch with no apparent results. I can't even tell with way the switch should be since the problem appears the same with the switch in either position.

maybe the tail is spinning in the wrong direction

just a wild guess

Tail Rotor Blades

If you are refering to the tail rotor blades they are turning with the leading edge forward and everything assembled according to the instruction booklet. As far as the blades turning Clockwise or Counter Clockwise I'm not sure at the moment but it is assembled according to instructions with tail blades on the right side of the boom.

Check this site out...

go to www.deeteeenterprises.com. Dennis has a lot of tips, tricks and links there. He talks about the tail quite a bit. Also go on the E-zone and post there. The hot shots with those things are on there alot.
My daughters is coming in the mail on Monday (FP version). I am planning on a few days to get it flying.

check, if the head spins clockwise, the tail rotor should go counterclockwise.

I saw this happening to a R30 and they figured out that the belt that goes to the tail was not torn into the right direction, that would make the tail spin clockwise and it had to be counterclockwise. This would make the heli to start piroueting as soon as the skids leave the ground.

Hope this helps

that's for a right side tail rotor

Pete1961,
Either your tail gears are slipping (not skipping), or your head speed is too low, 2000 – 2100 is typical.

Hello, I just went through this problem and as Walt said in the previous post, my head speed was low so I had to have increased pitch to get it off the ground the tail couldn't hold, to much torque. I increased the rpms and because of this it needed less pitch to hover and the tail stopped trying to turn on me. Hope this helps.

Hornet CP setups

I had the same problem . I tried different pitch setups and the only one that would work left me with about .3 to .7 degrees. I would just barely get out of a hover and was difficult to get back from a fast sink. The other thing I noticed was the motor was very very hot. I actually converted the machine back to fixed pitch. I think a bigger or even a similar size brushless motor would have helped. Also I was getting low flight times of 2 to 3.5 minutes depending on how much hovering I did. Its a really nice little machine I would like to try it with a larger higher RPM motor and tinker with the gear ratio some to get the current draw down and head speed up. The main rotor and the tail rotor are competing for the same power on this machine. The speed up gears would turn the tail faster but wouldn't that increase the load on the 300 motor??. maybe a 400 size? I ran out of inspiration and $$ before trying the above mentioned ravings. But the FP is still flying great
