I'm about to order one. I fly both Heli and Plane, and can't decide if I should go with the longer or shorter "Clip" version. What do you think? Any opinions?

I use the short clip on my helis. No problems. I always use a remote glow.

That is what I was thinking. With a remote glow adapter a short clip would be best.

Hi

I am also keen to buy one and have had the same question. The long clip may be better if you fly cowled aircraft. or you want to connect your clip directly on a rear facing motor heli...like Fury.

I am busy building a Fliton Inspire 60. It has a cowled YS63 4-stroke. With the glowdriver issue, i used a heli remote glow adapter and mounted it just out of sight inside the bottom of the cowl at the exhaust/cooling outlet.

Think i will get the short clip version.

I think the whole thing would be better if there was a jack at the top of the glow driver and then you could plug in whatever cord and clip you need......i used to fly Nelson powed pylon racers. the glow plug is much bigger and most people use two clips, one on the top of the glow and one on the needle or some other part of the motor.

Regards

Paul

I'm with you Paul, surprised that they haven't simply put in a jack for the plug connector wire so that you could have both.

I have the short clip. I connect it directly to the plug on my EVO 50. No remote glow for me as the all fail eventually.

The clip is just a Du-Bro clip which you can buy separately:

If you need to use both clips just buy the clip you need (short or long) and add your favorite connector (Anderson Powerpole or Deans) in between and you'll have the best of both worlds.

Hi Ace Dude

The other problem with wires coming out the top of the unit, is when you store the thing, you will fold up the wires or wind then around the unit. There will be max flex just as it exits the unit and the wires will eventually break inside the insulation.

I don't pull the wire to a tight bend where it exits the unit when I store it. Same treatment with anything that has wires. They do come with a nice hefty wire.

Ace, I don't have problems with my remote glows. Been using them for years now. Still have an unused spare. I love having it on the side next to the refueling line.

I've been using mine for a few years and I've never had the wires break. You don't need to add an APP/Deans connector right at the unit. Give it 6" from where the wire exits the unit...just like a connection between a n ESC and a motor.

All the ones I've used in the past have fallen off. I just don't need them on my Sceadu EVOs. I just reach under the canopy and connect the connector right to the plug.

I bought the longer one, have not had a problem with it. It basically up to you, do you think you need the longer one or the shorter one? Base your decision on the fact that if you do decide to get the longer one at least you wont end up short! You can change it out down the road anyway and at that time just install a deans.

Which remote glow adapters are you using?

Fluke makes a nice set of insulated alligator clips that I saw someone using once. I was thinking those might be an option as well.

My only complaint is with the screen printing.

DO NOT GET ANY FUEL ON THE LETTERING.

Fuel will take it right off! Doh.

I've found this with most products I've bought. It seems so simple to me that these items are going to get fuel on them. Why don't the mfc's think about that? Most notably is the panel with built in fuel pump. Of coarse it gets fuel on it and messes up the lettering and even melts the plastic.

I'm going to order mine with a short clip now. Then I'll have it ALL! At least till I see the next Gotta Have.

You're gonna love it. It takes away all of your glow starter maintenance. Charge lasts all year.

Look closely - that's RonRock's signature - it has nothing to do with this thread or the RCAT product . . .
