First 3D flight pictures I got on the Fuze 90. Got some cool pictures with the moon and just had a great flight in general. Enjoy

In this flying location which is walking distance from my house, it is on a mountain peak with valleys almost 360 degrees, fantastic flying area!
Bad for a engine flamout though

The canopy can be changed, I just used a Freya canopy as a cheapo durable everyday canopy for visability purposes, I've already test fitted a Aurora canopy on it and it fits with little modifications, just need to get a unpainted one to paint.

Nice work! Any ideas about changing the fuel tank to make it more hidden?

Chris,

It looks great. Is there any particular reason why you chose to mount the fuel tank up front instead of under the main shaft?

I agree too. Could you not have turned the tank 90 degrees so that it remains under the canopy?

Keep up the good work.

The reason, I have the tank turned vertical like that is to reduce the amount of horizontal CG change through 3D manuevers from the fuel sloshing around. The fuel sloshing up and down is less detrimental to the flight characteristics.

I kinda wanted to go with a rear mounted tank, but being that I was working with using existing heli parts, I was kind of limited. There is however no limitations with flight though, it flies great, a lot of credit due to the fantastic programmable head.

At first I wanted to hide the tank, but after flying it, I kinda like having it so visable, because even though it is front mounted, I can easily see my fuel level any time without having to bring it in and peek under the canopy.

This was flight number 10 and I've not had to do any maintenance whatsoever, so I'm very happy that its not falling apart, lol.

I thought that your reasons were along those lines. As long as it works that is all that matters.

I think that it is good that people are trying different things to get a heli to fly to their liking. Keep up the good work Chris and keep us informed on the progress of the Fuze 90.

Yea, I'm just old fashioned like that, I don't like to rely on no voodoo computer radio to tell me when I'm runnin' low on fuel, lmao Thanks for the kind words

Yes, I made and designed the Fuze 90 frameset. It uses the following from other helis.

-Fury lower channels and motor mount assembly
-Predator drivetrain, main shaft and tail rotor assembly
-Carbon Xtreme Programmable head
-Kalt T-type levers and CCPM set up

Using the Predator parts as the main drivetrain, the main components that break/bend in a crash keeps cost down to a minimum. $8.95 for a main shaft, $10 for a boom, and $5 for a torque tube. The Programmable head spindle is reasonable too priced at about $12. The ENTIRE G-10 frameset cost less than $10 in material

Cool, now Aurora has more competition

How much does it weigh full up ???

Haven't got to 'officially' weigh it, but from the hand weigh test, I'd say its probably close to high 9lbs, maybe low 10s, with no fuel. Feels very light and nimble in the air, yet still has some weight to handle winds well and still be smooth and in control.

No competition for the Aurora here, only my idea from 2 years ago come to fruition, I'm so thrilled right now, just wish I could get some more flight time on it, haven't flown since last Sundays flight

Doing well, it's been so hot here and I've been so short handed on time that I haven't got to fly it for a few weeks. This weekend is looking good though, all charged and set to get some fuel burned.

Update on the heli. Just installed 8.18 gear ratio last night and a venom temp gauge I got from a RR member. Going to remove a shim from the SZ(right now .20thou) and see how much power I gain and also how much the temp rises too, even though a few RR members think engine temp doesn't correlete to performance.

At any rate, I should get a much livelier heli with the higher headspeed, can't wait to try it out this weekend. Oh ya, fitted a Aurora canopy on it, did a little bit of cutting. Still doesn't cover the front fuel tank so I left it in the same orientation. I would like to try a Fury canopy though as it'll be able to hide the front fuel tank, don't know how much I'd like that though, really like the great fuel level visability the way the fuel tank is now.

Well, will be posting some pics in a couple of days. Finally outside temps are dropping here and I should be starting to get out and fly more often.
