e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > DD tail motor gets HOT

So far I have burned up one motor for DD tail set up and now the second one which I flew for no more than one minute got hot enough to burn after touching for 2 seconds. Has anyone had this problem? The setup works just fine it just burns the motors up. I am using the motor as seen on the blade cp repair website. I am running a straight CP with bell hiller mixer, and lipo 1320 battery

cant do that. That little heli still holds a place in my heart. besides trex like to spin tail and cut grass still.

Is your tail motor brushed or brushless? Also, what size prop are you using? Gyro gain? It goes without saying that you want to make sure that there is no mechanical binding on the motor or prop at all.

I'm running a brushless DD tail on two of my helis. They were running very warm, but heatsinks have cured that issue.

I just went through this mess for 2 weeks,I burned up 3 motors.Alot of it is your prop choice,go with the smallest one that will hold. Also I truly believe that sometimes the warehouses send the CN12-RLC motor instead because of high demand. Its the only way to explain why your setup works fine, you swap in a new motor with the exact same setup and the motor just fries.....I had one actually catch on fire.Put a new one in and it flies great...go figure.....Definately use a heat sink...I actually tried breaking one in this time(Ihad tried everything else)and it seems to be helping.

What prop are you using on it? if your using a 3x2 then it may be the low version motor that fenderstrat is saying. i use the edp-50 with a 3020 prop and its slightly warm after an entire pack of hard flying.

I use 3020 props and always a good heat sink - But when my last brushed motor only lasted about an hour I decided it might be worth the $50 to convert to brushless and as of today I have 104 flights (13 hours) on it and no sign of it giving up - The performance is as good as a motored tail can give and I give it a bit of a workout - At the end of my flights I have to cup my hand around the whole tail motor to feel any heat at all - I'm no longer crashing because of a finicky tail and I get a lot more airtime because of that - A still simple but predictable and reliable tail gives a big boost in confidence and enjoyment

I order a hug heatsink and still had this problem, you need to limit the voltage to tail and I used the prop that cam with the motor. I got the info from the forums of this site http://www.bladecprepair.com

When I first started flying in Feb,there were dozens of posts about dont waste time and money making the blade brushless, waste of time, money, get a rex blah blah blah.If I had gone brushless tail from the get go I would have spent LESS money and Id have spent the last 3 weeks flying instead of diagnosing and swapping.I know I've said this before, but if you love to fly your blade often(like me,even when my new heli is done I'm still gonna fly my blade)then brushless is the way to go

the 4530 prop that comes with the helihobby kit made my motor so hot it would fry spit of you finger after a 5 min flight,I dont know how people get that prop to work

hmm I have a stock blade pretty much. Was trying to work this thng out before going to an HH Gyro. How can I tell if I have a cheap subtituted motor, and where can I find this brushless set up? I was using the big prop but didn't last. I had 3020 prop(didn't squeeze hard enough, and it flew off. I've got more of those on order.

So far I havent found a way to tell the low volt and high volt motors apart.they look identical.I also bought the adapter kit so there's no chance of damage when installing the prop.It also made it easier when I was testing props as I have tested almost every size available.....There is a post a few pages back about the feiago brushless tail motor do a search it has all the info and pics

some people put a gws DD tail in and go fly others like myself seem to have some problems

Thats almost manufacturer negligence. A low volt motor with all that power going to it would cook no prob. I bet thats what the deal is.

I doubt GWS would substitute the motors but a retailer might especially if they don't realize theres a difference

Thats what I was refering to the warehouses here in the US...Its the only way I can explain getting 3 motors from the same company, when put in the exact same setup down to the volts at the tail, and flown the same way, 2 of them burn up in less than an hour and the third had about 4 hours so far and so far so good

I might have to put the old geared stuff back on till the mail gets in.So no 3 in 1 for the brushless? cool. Will it cost an arm and a leg? sounds worth it. I didn't know the beach cp was you. way cool.

ok i crashed my heli in ff bacwards ..was a nasty crash ! now its all rebuilt i tryed to fly and no tail controll! on the bench the tail spools up ..turn the nose and the gyro responds , it will hover BUT no tail control . it dont piro it just wont respond to the controll left or right. it has a new 3n1 new motor and prop 3020 g90 gyro ...why dont i have tail controll now? gyro seems to respond but when flying soon as i give it throttle ..no tail controll.... what would cause this?

tail motor .. i installed a new one but it was getting fire hot ! so i put back the other one it dont get hot but it wont hold in flight .... this thing flew sooo nice before this crash the tail would snap turn and stop with perfect hold ... i did notice the new boom is about 1 1/2 shorter than the one i replaced could this be the prob?
