Hi guys and gals,
Just flown my new bird and am generaly impressed apart from the noise from i think the main gear. At first it sounded like bearing noise but i have been convinced by others that it is deffinatly the gears. Can anyone shed some light for me as i think i am only the 4th Aussie with one of these.I have changed to the new blue main gear but no difference. Any body got any ideas.

main gear noise

first I've heard of it, you have the 85T main gear? (Blue) I change mine out. It really helped in preformace. not sure why a main gear would cause noise unless it might be the mesh?
Contact your dealer and see if they can take a look.

Yep, unlike other helis, the gear mesh is adjustable, so you might want to, um, adjust it. To see if it makes a difference.

I got a helicopter for my girlfriend,
It was a good trade!

Gear Mesh

Thanks Rock for replying.
I have tried various settings with the mesh but to no avail.
After my first couple of flights i took it back to my distributer who had not long since first flew his own Hurrican his was the same but he reckoned his noise clearsd after 8 flights.
My prob is the bird flies great, it looks great but it sounds like a bucket of bolts.

Well i flew the bird about 10 flights yesterday, sweet to fly but no noise reduction.Guess i will just have to live with the noise for a while untill i try the Skipper gears. Got 5 days off work now so its in for a hammering. Time to get back to the airfield.
Happy Flying to all.

chirpin noise

Hi--I fly an Airskipper 50 and had the same kind of "resonance" which sounded like gear chirping--I solved it on the airskipper by adding a frame crossmenber between the ourmost frames near the clutch bell--there's a corner on those frames that vibrates if not supported--the crossmember runs between the bell & and the collar at the bottom of the mast--a tight squeeze! but it cured the problem--hope it helps!

my downward spiral into poverty--is a death spiral!!

Gear Noise

Hi Bob,
Thanks for that info I will certainly give it a try.I am dying to get to the bottom of this problem as it is such a shame to have such a good looking and great flying bird sound like a Turkey.
Regards Chris.

Gear noise

Hi spitfire, I'm on a same boat as you. I also tried gear mesh and even greasing a gear. greasing a gear helped me bit but still has that kind of squeeking noise. I've flown mind for about 15times now but still noise come from gear after landed and before rev up. of course, can't hear it when rev is so high. I still havn't found the answer. Will let you know if I do find. please let me know too if u find it.

Gear Noise

Hi Jaehosses i guess we are allmost neighbours, i fly out of the Wanneroo Aeromodellers. What you are describing is exactly the noise i have too. I have changed main gear, greased it,tried all mesh combinations. Have you got the new type Blue gear fitted? Have you changed the pipes in both fuel tanks as the pipes that come with the kit are an accident waiting to happen, rot away in about 3 weeks.
Apart from these two problems i think it is going to prove to be a great bird. I have finished running my motor in as i like to run rich for a long time, but leaned it out last weekend and the power is mind blowing for a 50 size.
If i get any more info i will let you know.

Gear Noise

Hi Spitfire. My name is Jack and yes we are neighbours.
Umm..yeah I've already changed fuel tubes in both fuel tanks.
I was flying it and I saw that I had half tank left and engine got cut off!! Personally, I've never done autorotation before and it was
my first time!!! haha. I've managed to land the heli as autorotation. I thank so much to heli sim as I was practicing on sim when I was bored. Not a big fan of autorotation nor glider. So yeah..I've changed both fuel tubes and yes I do have new blue T=85 main gear. You know what... Again, I took blades off and turning head with my hand in very quite room and if I'm not wrong, the noise was coming from autorotation assembly. Not sure about your but mine came as assembled. I'm going to change this bitch to JR AS50 part. Now I have to hunt for a part. Will let you know. Hey, email me your mob number so oneday we fly together. jaehos@hotmail.com

Noise from autorotation assembly

Hi hurrican ppl. I have figured out the noise. It was from autorotation assembly. What I did was I removed head gears and autorota assem and fully grease the individual parts including dampers and spindles on head. I flew today and spot on. all the noise is gone. so for those who is experiencing noise make sure grease the autorotation assembly. Thanks.

I have been flying the Hurricane for about three months now. It has had that noise from the start. the heli fly's great but the noise is driving me nuts.i greased everything. It seems the noise is coming from main gear mesh. I have it adjusted perfect ....still noisy. I am going to start using JR parts to see if this solves the noise problem.
I'll let you know if things change.

Getter Done !

Make sure the main gear isnt touching the clutch and tail pinion bearing blocks that is what will cause the noise

Hi All,
Its nice to know, at least i am not the only one that has this noise. I am a bit suprised that one of the selling agents haven't jumped in and solved our problems by now or would that be wishfull thinking LOL.I guess we will have to solve the prob ourselves.
Have a great day guys.

Its quite hard for main gear to touch the clutch bell. in original format it has good distance. When people buy a hurrican and build them, major issue is that rotation assembly and head with spindle comes assembled without any greasing on it. Of course, I also build mine as it is which made to noise. Thus, I had to fully dis-assemble them and put them together with much of grease. Now, no noise and all spot on. I went flying again today and felt very smooth.

Spitfire make sure the top of the gear doesnt touch the blocks i mentioned. Either that or it is touching the tail pinion just enough to make it squeal

is right, I had this on mine and fix it so the two gears did not touch at all by installing a 10mm spacer
