Hi Everyone,

I need a new carbon tail boom for my Zoom 400 and (unfortunately) the only one I can find in stock anywhere in the UK is the Protech "official" one.

From what I can tell on the websites, this comes with a centre bearing installed. Im hoping that its possible to push this out as Im running a belt setup.

Has anyone tried doing this? Is the bearing glued in somehow?

Thanks

Yes the bearing seems to be glued in to those booms. I have pushed one out in the past, but it's not easy and there is probably some risk of screwing up the boom in the process. When you get it out, you will have 2 small (1mm) holes in the boom where they inject the glue.

My technique was to use a rod that was a sliding fit in the boom and long enough to reach all the way through. I held the rod fixed vertically and tapped the boom down onto the rod, just holding the boom in my hand - not using a hammer or anything else that might damage the boom.

Thanks Rob,

With the fact its twice the price of other booms and the chance of screwing up the boom, I think I'll give it a miss.

Hi...
You can get carbon rod from some model shops and carbon suppliers. Buy the size and bore you need and cut to length. Just a thought.
Good luck
