Talk about stupid!!!! It is kind of like some of our customers at work. They are too cheap to spend a few $$ to get their AMA and join a local flying club. They would rather risk someone's safty by flying their DA50 sized airplanes at local city parks or school yards. I try to explain to them I am not questioning their flying ability, but what if the un-controlable happens. Radio failure, mechanical failure. What would have the guy with the raptor done if a link failed and the heli hit the coffe table. Some one is going to eat a rotor blade. Dumb, Stupid, did I mention DUMB!!!!!! I liked the part where the smoke alarm started going off.

probably NOT a fake: look at the smoke pattern, the instability from flying in disturbed air, and especially the behaviour of the skids on the shiny floor. It definitely took off from a shiny surfaceIMO not a fake, but pretty dangerous.

I think it is hilarious that every time there is a picture or video like this there is a bunch of people who claim it is fake. What he is doing in the video is not particularly difficult just dangerous. It would be a much more difficult task to fake the video than to just fly and film it.

This video has been discussed to death in other threads and other forums as well. The video is real and there has actually been a lot of discussion on some Norwegian forums about the debate that has been raging here on RunRyder about the authenticity of the pictures and video of this flight. guess he never saw blade come apart

i seen two time where bades came apart in a small hover one was cause a name less LHS and a guy named WAYNE never glued my grips to my woodie blades on my first 30 size helli so one second hover me standing 10-15 ' away saw the blades fly off they split down the root. if i wasnt so new to the hobby i would have known better the second time i saw it was a outer grip bearnig failure the inner race was on the spindle and the outer race in the grip needless to say i was just taking off and snap saw blade fly right by me and the other smack the frame and compleatly destroyed my g10 frame. but the blade landed scratch free about 100' away but if his were to let loose , i am sure some one would be dead. and then the idiot would blame the helli and there would be another strike against the safty of rc choppers, what idiots there are out there and that what happends one person usually ruins it for all of us.

I really don't see what the big problem is. Mostly paranoia on the part of others. How is that different from winding up on the flight line. I've done it hundreds of times with the heli 10 feet from me.

I suppose the paranoid types don't get out much. They need a good dose of carrier operations.

The real problem, that everybody missed, is the exhaust fumes in a closed room.

I don't think the reactions are excessive. Everyone in that room is in serious danger, for no other reason than a guy said the famous last words of idiots "watch this!". Even a nanosecond radio glitch could have caused serious damage, injury or even death. The bystanders may not have even realized just how much danger they were in. What if the radio went into fail safe? I just don't think it was a smart thing to do. You are in a very small minority, if you think that this was an acceptable risk. It was very foolish. If I were there, I would have left the room as soon as the engine was started.

but he should know enough that theses machine not toys can let go at a moments notice and i know when i spool up i am the only one with in 10 ft even if i have to walk it 20 ' in off the line, but this guy is a f-in idiot. and those who follow in his foot steps should be shot, for driving up my insu rates.

What the hell makes you think I would ban carrier operations? I am not a safety nut, I am safety concious. I would never consider banning them. There are too many differences between carrier operations and flying an R/C heli in a dangerous manor to discuss in depth. Carrier crews are being paid to be there. They are extremely well trained. Every neuance of those operations are discussed before planes are launched. Communications are constant between the whole crew. True, it is one of the most hazzardous occupations in the world. But, it cannot be compared in any way, shape or form to this stupid stunt. What if the blinds had been blown off the window and distracted the pilot? Would he have had time to recover? I seriously doubt it! Why are you even arguing that this is a safe and acceptable thing to do?
