A123 lithium cells! is anyone using these for a Collective Pitch Balistic Technology Corona. I am still usuing the NiMH 7 cell 2600 mAh. Obviously I don't get geat flight time and my charger indicated the level of charge excepted by the pack. I was thinking the A123 Lithium cells because of durability and the weight would improve flying characteristics. Please let me know if this is a good idea or wheather I should just invest in the real lithium packs instead of the cell. Thanks.

The 123 cells are so new....I know nothing about them except they are more rugged than the regular pilos. Also.....guys are buying DeWalt packs and opening them and robbing the cells out to make new packs.

Research before tearing apart an new battery pack.

Someone (maybe Askman) was using 5 cells on his BT-CP, but don't know his motor or head speed, but I think he runs a very high speed. People say one A123s is equivalent to about 2-1/2 NiMH cells. A123 are about 2.5 ounces/cell (70g). Horizon Hobby (www.horizonhobby.com) sells single cells at $19 each. You can also buy the A123 System's packs from them. Tanic (www.tanicpacks.com) also makes A123 packs -- both are expensive. I was considering A123s for my BT-CP and Mini Titan, but decided on regular flat lipos. A123s seem too big for a mini, but can work with BT-CP depending on your crutch. Maybe I'll experiment when the A123 ready-made packs come down in price. I don't really want to tear apart a DeWalt pack and make my own. However, I like the safety and fast charge of A123s.

I'm using the Makita drill pack batts. Li-ion in my LM 100 modded to electric. 3 1500 ma cells do the job. On the bigger Hurricane I'm using the same cells in a 6s 2c configuration that's 24 volts. Very good run times. Charging with a regular lipo charger.
