Anyone have experience with these units? Have a Bergen Observer we would like to take autonomous. Micropilot is one of a few we're looking at. We have a CCT Piccolo II, but they haven't yet finalized the firmware for helicopter flight.

Another I was looking at was the WePilot 1000.

The NRI unit seems to be huge, or at least looks like it is from the few pics they have online. Is the NRI system housed in the huge aluminum enclosure hanging below all their helicopters? If so, that's a wastefully large footprint. Is their system even available without buying a helicopter?

Cheers,
Erich

The NRI Autocopter Express Gasser is based on the Vario Benzine Trainer, A very nice platform. This particular version has all the flight control system tucked neatly under the canopy. Done very nicely too.

So tell me what's in the big metal box underneath all their helis?

Does anyone have pics of the NRI autopilot system installed? I would much rather go with their system, but I sure need more research on their system, aside from their lacking website.

That was their first Gen. flight box,
You can tell by their newer video's Its much smaller now.
Pretty cool the entire flight system is actually inside the canopy on one of them!

Here's his link, I dont think he's online much, but if ya send him a pm he'll answer

Check out http://www.adaptiveflight.com/

It's one of the most advanced small autopilots available.

Henrik is already doing work for us that I'm not at liberty to discuss here. We are certainly considering his autopilot for the Observer, as well.

This picture shows the bulk of the system but there are components installed elsewhere on the heli. We don't use a ground control station with this one but it can still be flown semi-autonomously and self-stabilizes.

That's a start, thanks very much!

That's also a lot of boards stacked together. I bet vibration plays hell with such a configuration over time.

I tried wePilot 1000. Excellent. I do not have experience with other systems.

I sent NRI a PM last week...no response. They must be away, his last post on RR was about a month ago.

Pingwing,

Tell me about the autonomous capabilities of the WePilot 1000...

What I read is that it's basically an upgraded hover stabilizer. Is it a true FCS, with forward flight, altitude hold, and nav tracking ability?

I believe it is pretty sophisticated autopilot. I have seen our automated helicopter flying 10m/s - pretty fast for hover. More speed i believe is just gain schedule issue. Gusty winds semmed not to affect the system much. rock solid hover. We have automated flybarlees multi bladed heads - no mechanical gyro on cyclic. Two different size helicopters.
It is true FCS, with ground control station and GPS navigation. It includes automatic take off and landing. It includes home waypoint return, if link is lost.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

pingwin

OK, guys, thanks for the info. My guess is, that since we already have an established relationship, we'll probably go with Adaptive Flight Systems' FCS20. It's not really my call, but that of my PM.

Thank you all for the inputs.
