Aerobatic 3D Contest > IRCHA Jamboree vs. XFC

Hey everyone just wanted to get some thoughts on these events, as my wife has kind of drawn a line in the sand saying we can only attend one as they are both going to be held in the same spot this year just different months. I also should mention I have never been to either, but want to attend both. I just have a couple questions.

How family friendly are each? I have a wife and a 6 year old I'll be bringing with me.

Are there more things do besides watching the pilots, like are there vendors, and or other attractions?

If you had to decide as I do what would you pick and why?

I have watched videos on both and seen some of the cool things they both have to offer and being they're going to be held down at the AMA field it will be nice to take my family through the AMA museum.

Any of you who have any past experiences with either of these any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

I have been to the jamboree twice and it has a very nice variety of flying from small electrics to giant scale to all out screaming 3D and all kinds of cool stuff to keep you and your family occupied. If you go make sure you stay for the night flight competition on Saturday!

I've never been to the XFC but if it is at the AMA HQ this year as you say then i will go to both. Where can i get details about XFC?

thanks enahs

That page doesn't seem to be dialup friendly, i've been waiting for it to load since you posted and all i got is the paragraph at the bottom with the date and location.

Could you perhaps provide a direct link to the details please? I can only go one day and i need to figure out which day to go.

IRCHA......

Not only do you get to watch some of the best pilots in the world fly in a RELAXED atmosphere, you also get to do some flying yourself

Dan,

If you are bringing your family I would suggest the XFC. You won't get to fly yourself, like at IRCHA, but what we have put together this year is the largest event ever held at the AMA. Along with the XFC 3D competition there will be World class full size aerobatics, RC vendors, hot air balloons, skydivers, a carnival and outdoor concert. If your family is like mine, IRCHA is only cool for Dad and they get bored after about 5 minutes of flogging helis.

Thanks,

Wendell

Wendell,

Is the XFC going to be a 4 day event then? Because the looks from the site was it was only Saturday and Sunday, but some say it will be starting thursday and going straight through till sunday? If so I may have to work in different travel days

The event officially starts on Friday. We have added the "last chance qualifier" which is the only flying activity on Thursday, other than practice.

Dan,

Here are the things you will see at the two events:

IRCHA
1. International World Class Pilots (many countries represented)
2. Scale Helicopter Competition
3. Auto Rotation Competition
4. Drag Racing
5. Trex 450 Pylon Racing
6. International Night Fly Competition
7. Educational Seminars with demonstrations Friday and Saturday
8. Approximately 50 mfgs and vendors

XFC
1. World class 3D helicopter and airplane competition
2. Vendors and mfgs (don't know their numbers)

If you want to attend a competition then head to the XFC, if you want to attend a funfly then come to IRCHA.

Another question, it's seems we may have to bring our miniature dachshund's with us. Is there any hotels that are pet friendly down there? I mean 1 of them weighs 7 pounds and the other 9, Anyone know if the event is dog friendly? If not I may have to find a sitter, but it's gonna be tough.
