Compass Knight 50 > Knight 3D sideways wobble

Hi
Just finished putting together a mates 3D, fitted V-blades, paddles and tail blades, at 1400 rpm it's OK, at 1800 rpm it's OK but at 1650 it has a pronounced sideways wobble. Any ideas as to why? maybe it's just because it's new. I did notice that I had to space the blades out as although the blades holders are supposed to be 12 mm and the blades are 12mm root there was about a 1mm gap. Should I have just pulled the bolts tighter?
Thanks

The wobble that you are describing is normal in a new Knight 3D. The clear dampeners that come with the kit are very hard. To help with this issue, ckeck out the Compass Model website. Click on the "Tech Support" menu and they explain how to slightly modify the stock clear dampeners.

Denis,

You actually need two 1 mm spacers per side with the 12 mm root blades.

Hi:

I install 12 mm NHP in my 3D and need to use the plastic spacer/washer included with the blades. If you want to make them the dimension are .158" inside diameter, .850" outside diameter and .032" thickness. Its very important that the four spacer has the same thickness.

Also I resolve similar wobble issue just tightened the seesaw and mixing arm screws (I found them lose in first flights), remember add locktite.

regards

Right, did the damper mod and it wobbles still but at the lower head speed only. 1700 up it is fine. I sent a couple of suggestions to Compass yesterday and they got back to me today to ask for photos... now THAT is good turn around time. Rolls and flips are good although the forward flip rate seems a bit slow to me, otherwise everything is great. Still got to run the engine in so am taking it easy at the moment, although I did cut the grass a bit today inverted. Not my heli but I think it is a winner.

Hi Dennis, glad you enjoyed flying the Knight 3D. As you have gathered the symptons you described are a consequence of the head damping set up.

The 3D was designed to be capable of demanding, and aggressive 3D flight straight out of the box with no upgrades required. Head damping has been tuned to enable excellent response and control at the higher headspeeds normally used for this style of flying. At lower headspeeds, and particularly when the dampers are new, this stiffer damping can result in a slight wobble.

In my experience this tends to wear off after a few flights, and should not be an issue. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate in contacting me directly.

Hi Roger
Nice to hear from you. Hope you are well. Wasn't trying to bypass you with my suggestions, just that I went to the website as suggested by ez2bguy to see the damper mod and I saw where they said contact them with any suggestions. Will you be at LHC this weekend for the 3DX ?
Will contact you directly in future if needed. Thanks
Denis
