Compass Knight 50 > oh man it's been a while

It's been while since I been on RR due to work hours. Finals are finally over and now I'm working 7days a week and boy is it tiring I get to wake up late tomorrow so thought I'll give you guys some updates

I decided to take my Knight apart to do a full inspection.

What I found that would need to be checked on.

The lower main bearing went bad on me. I did the 3rd bearing block mod. The upper and lower bearing booth went rough. The middle bearing is still very smooth. The lower bearing is the roughest one. I haven't had any crashes or hard landing yet since I installed those bearings 1 gallon ago. I'm thinking maybe the lower frame is flexing somewhere causing the bearing to go bad. Anyone notice this problem? Maybe the bottom board brace can be thicker to help with the flexing.

And the next thing I notice was my phasing ring now has some slop. I have the second batch of knights with the thicker phasing ring. I'm don't think there was slop there before. So far i haven't really notice any problems in flight.

The small flanged bearing where the single front arm shaft mounts too has develop a slight amount of play.

(This is not the starter shaft!)
This is the shaft that is perpendicular to the main shaft that the 3 mixing arms attaches on to. The bearings move about .5mm up and down on both sides in the frame. I'm thinking the G-10 frame wore out

Now for the head. The seasaw bearing have slop too I can tighten the screws down but the 2 bearings rock back and forth. They don't slide back and forth but the bearing itself moves in the headblock

This is truly one great/awsome flying machine but the longevity of the parts develop play after a few gallons. I was really happy with the Knight ever since I got it, but the slop i am finding in my Knight 3D now is making me kinda upset. Maybe it's just my luck with the problems. Now I'm thinking if I should sell my Knight 3D to get another heli? I already have the longer carbon boom mod in the works and just waiting for my longer belt to come in. I may have to put the project on hold since I won't have too much free time to really do anything

Oh well that's why I'm now working 7days a week to help fund for more parts and a new heli

Your not instilling much confidence in my decision to give the Knight another try

As I understand it most of the issues you outlined are the bearings. Is that correct? That's one area I have noticed the most variance between the inexpensive companies like TT, Align, and now apparently Compass. None of their bearings seem to be on par with what I am used to from Hirobo. From what I recall the Align 600 also suffered from bearing issues and those affected replaced them with better bearings from Boca or a similar company.

Tony

When you put yours together did you dial indicate the motor? I wonder if your clutch or fan hub could be out a bit causing high vibes in the airframe, wearing out the area where the bearings seat? How much time do you have on it?

I have about 5 gallons thru mine including two crashes and it is working great. I replaced the mainshaft bearings at about the 2 gallon mark but that was after a crash. Its pretty easy to do and the parts price was reasonable...

I have about 3 gallons on mine and bearings are still pretty smooth.
But when i do replace them I will put Boca bearings on. I always replace my bearings with boca when Im done for the season.

Thanks

Kirk I never dial my fan when I installed it. With the way the fan screws on I though there was no need to dial it in since you really can't adjust it much. You know my rear engine bearings are still good so I don't think that run out is the problem.

I have about 4-5 gallons so far on my K3D.

if the bearings are the problem than I hope Compass would do something about it. I buy a nice kit to fly and don't want to later on upgrade anything like better bearings. I guess you get what you pay for

lately I have been pushing my Knight a lot. More than my other helis since I feel very comfortable flying it. I have been doing a lot of high G moves and wonder if that's loading up the bearings? I have watch some of the Knight 3D vids and a lot of them are doing a lot of 3D but not really that hard core stuff that looks like something is going to break soon. You guys think flying fast backwards than flipping and stopping the heli the last minute will wear out the bearings? Or maybe when I let Inkspot fly my Knight 3D at Mayday he really put push my heli to the limits with the new Radix Stubs paddles Lol
You guys should have seen the stuff he was doing I was standing next to him while he was test flying my heli and my whole body was shaking Lol For a moment there I really thought he was flying a new 90 size ship When he gave me the TX for me to fly I couldn't even fly for more than 1 minute Lol Having that feeling made me decide to keep my Knight

Lol Gary I'm never too tired to spend money man going out with my peeps or buying more heli's is not that hard
As for flying it really doesn't matter if I fly or not. It's been too hot these days. I have a SIM that I can fly on and be in the nice cool AC room So did you ever get your up and flying since Mayday? You really need to get some more flights in man and start to push your skills more Your slacking GARY!

hehe I know how you feel Dave. Work sucks but you need that green paper to pay for stuff
