Manxman Heliman Location: Isle of Man
| Well, I woke up sunday morn to find perfect weather, no wind and dry. I run the engine the previous day for the first time, that was exciting enough, never mind going for first flight.
My dad has got a couple of fields, so my wife and I, plus the 2 kiddies and my dad headed for one of them. Fuelled the sceadu up and fired up the engine.
Whey hey, here goes. Vid cam running the lot. I applied throttle gently, she started to lift of the undercarriage, a little more throttle and the engine started to die - quick read found to be needle too rich, so I knocked it back a touch and tried again. Same result, it took a few attempts to get it right but finally we skipped across the grass on the undercarriage. What a feeling - panick and excitement rolled into one. I eventually had the nerve to add a little more throttle and got her up a couple of feet, but some adjustment needed on the tail rotor, as she was trying to rotate pretty fiercely. Tail sorted and a couple of trimmings later, I had my sceadu in a stable hover and 15 feet of the ground and being able to land not great ( thanks for the landing gear to cushion the blow) at first, but improved each time.
I've had no instructor, just a sim to practice on, and all your great help and advice on this site to get me through, a big thankyou to you all. I had a little help to get my radio setup though, but that's all.
This is such a good feeling when the kit, from all it's bits and pieces is finally in the sky. I love this hobby I'm hooked for life!
