Blade length

It depends on the style flying you like to do. The 700mm Rotor Sport symmetrical blades are really inexpensive sport blades that fly very well. For a smoother style of flying 680 or 690 SAB/TG symmetricals work really well, and for FAI style flying a 680/690 semisymmetrical like the High Products PX or PG works well.
V Blades are fine as are NHP and any of about 15 other brands that are availlable. Find a set you like and stick with them.

On a dog sled team, if you're not the lead dog, the view never changes.

700mm blades

Can someone please share the advantages observed when switching to 700mm blades? I am running Leisure Tech 680 Glass blades now, running an OSwc/muscle pipe.

Does the roll rate suffer?
Are autos noticably better?
Is the vertical performance improved dramatically?

Please try to answer these questions with a rating of 1-10 to help me justify the added cost of changing blades, i.e. don't want to spend $125 for a slight improvement.

If you like what you have, run them. As for your question, the 700mm blades have more blade area, which lowers the disk loading of the model (kind of like wing loading an a fixed wing). Autos will often improve because of this. Typically, if you have more blade area out there, fewer degrees of both cyclic and collective pitch will be required to accomplish the same tasks vs 680 blades. This is all assuming the multitude of other blade variables like cg, total weight, chord, and airfoil are all equal. Larger blades are good up to the point that you create enough extra drag to easily overload your head/motor when stick inputs are less than ideal. I don't think it would be a bad decision to wait until you have a mishap or can clearly see a problem with the blades you now have to switch. Meantime, $125 worth of fuel can create a lot of new skill.

Duane,
To add to what has already been said here, I have one Fury Expert with a ST2 on an older Hatori running 10% Nitro and have experienced the differences between the 680 SAB and the 700 Gammas on the 60.

As Gordie stated the 680's are much smoother in flight and auto very well. These blades came with my chopper and I have a hard time taking them off !

The 700 Gammas on this machine are excellent and most folks around here prefer them for 3D. The gammas have a little more energy in autos than the 680's. The roll rate is faster with the Gamma blades considerably.

Locally, we have found that the lighter (175-182 gram) Gammas perform quicker with the crisp roll rate, have excellent auto capability and fly well. The heavier gammas have a slightly slower roll rate, auto forever and also fly well. The SAB Rotorsport 680's roll about the same as the heavier Gammas, auto well but have a little less hang time than the Gammas and fly the smoothest of all while still being very responsive.

For comparison, the 700 V-blades auto extremely well with "milking it" hang time, fly well and are a bit slower than the Gammas in roll (nearly the same as the SABS).

So there you go, it is really up to your flying style as to what you use. Either way the blades are all fine.
