Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Fury Expert 60 gear building question

I'm building my new fury now, and i'm running into something that is confusing me a bit.

I have the main gear...it basically consists of a large diameter gear (93T?) and a smaller diameter gear.

in the instructions, I am supposed to "try" a shim followed by an o-ring, followed by a black collar...then I am supposed to insert the dowel pin...

then I think I understand the instructions as telling me to try to move the 2 gears away from each other to test for end play...

then I think it's telling me to turn the large gear one direction while turning the smaller gear the opposite direction and that the gears should turn freely...

well, when I insert the collar and dowel pin, it takes considerable force to turn the gears...this is hard to explain, but it ALMOST feels similar to turning an engine by hand...it is hard to turn up to a point, then pops past the point, then turns easily for about an eighth of a turn and then it's hard again, pops again, easy again....repeats that way throughout the turning...

Shims

Take one of the shims out and try it again. Remove the shim above the white delrin ring at the bottom of the assembly. This should help, but it still shouldn't be that hard to turn. Let me know what it feels like after removing the shim.

ok...on page 17 of the manual, there is a picture of the upper gear getting ready to be inserted into the lower gear...I did exactly that...one shim, followed by the O-ring, followed by another shim (all lightly greased)

then combined the gears together...I also put the teflon oil into the sprag clutch as I was putting them together...

then I inverted the autorotation unit, and inserted the "normal" shim against the oilite bushing, followed by the O-ring, followed by the black coller...but when I inserted the dowel pin, it wouldn't turn at all...so I took out the "normal" shim, and I inserted the thinnest shim in the bag...still is difficult to turn...in fact, I assembled the unit onto the main shaft in the left frame to see how it fit...the large gear spins, but is very "notchy" while rotating...

ok...just called "red bob" at MA...he stepped me through some things, and we found the problem..

there are four screws that go into the larger gear housing and they are supposed to be countersunk...but the instructions said to tighten moderately...so I torqued the hell out of them this time and got them at least flush with the gear...

so the problem is solved...thanks for the help
