When comparing radios, what is the advantage difference between the JR XP8103 and the JR 10x (both in PCM of course). How does the Futaba 8UHPS match up to either the XP8103 or 10X?

If I only wanted to buy one radio, but could not afford to go with high end cost of the JR PCM10X, which would be best for a beginner helio pilot to learn and progress with? Considering ease of use and programming? The JR XP8103, Futaba 8UHP, or perhaps another recommendation?

Note - I am a newbie to heli's, not to RC, I flew planks for ten years in the 70's and 80's. Now returning to RC, fianlly, almost went to planks, until I found the FUN of Heli's on my Real Flight Deluxe sim. (Still love biplanes, but these Helio's are a blast)

Thanks - Thomas

I would recommend giving the Futaba 9CHP a look. The 8UHPS has been discontinued and the 9CHP is the replacement model. It has a much easier menu system and is fast and easy to program. I have my heli and 2 planks set up on my radio and it doesn't take long to change any settings. You could pretty much start setting this radio up without even opening the owners manual, that is how easy to program it is. I don't know how it is compared to the JR 8103, as I have never messed with one. Hope this helps some, and maybe someone else can add some info on the JR 8103.

radio

I recently moved up to an 8103DT (had a 652), and I think the graphical presentations of the pitch and throttle curves (and also the servo throws) are very nice to have, especially if you're a beginner. I don't know if the Futaba has this or not, but I've found it's a very nice feature to have.

Radio?

I don't know much about the Futbas, I do know that the JR 10X is one type specific-that is you get either heli or airplane. The 8103DT does several types of aircraft. If you are planning to invest in a new radio and still want to fly those "other" type-hehehe, then don't get a 10X. FWIW.----BladeRunner.

Radio decision

I fly with the JR 10X but I would recommend the new 9C. It has a lot of great features like most Futaba radios but beats them all in its ease of programming.

With radios as the question there it only one answer, GET THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD. I have a Futaba 9Z that I use for Airplanes, Yes I said Airplane, because a 35% Carden Edge 540 with a 3W-100 Signiture Engine is NOT a Plank . It will hover too. The Futaba 9Z Is not the easiest radio to program but once set up how much time do spend programming? The Futaba does have one advantage and that is it has duel programming, airplane & Helo. I also have a brand new JR 10X and I must admit I love this radio for my helos, it is very easy to program and will do all most anything you want to do. Both radios are neck and neck for the title THE BEST THERE IS. and there will never be a clear cut winner at least as long as there Fords and Chevys.
