Hey Guys -

I was the original designer of these parts, so I don't mind if you are running a few parts for personal use, but I do want to be involved if a production run is going to be made. I've actually created new revisions of all these parts to be lighter, stronger, and easier to replace in case of a HARD crash. I've crashed HARD numerous times and not a single bend in the frame - just change the main blades, main shaft, and ready to fly again. I've been flying these parts for the last 9 months or so and not once have I had to replace a frame component or broke any electonics!

I'm currently working with a local machine shop to produce more of these items and was planning on selling them through friends, fun flys, and other methods (such as RR). If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll start the production runs. I'm planning on producing around 200 parts of each design, so the price will be cheap (using AL 7075-T6 aluminum with hard-anodize finish). These parts are actually going through Patent applications right now with a co-signer, so a production run will be illegal, so I don't want anyone to get in trouble. I'm not looking to make a bunch of money, but I am protecting the intellectual property of the design and improve the best hobby in the world!

As for weight addition, it is very minimal to the overall power the Trex 600 can produce. Here are the weight breakdowns:

Base Plate: 75.7 g
Center Brace: 25.1 g
Front Brace: 24.8 g
Gyro Mount Brace: 35.4 g

I'm also producing Hardened Tool-Steel B2 one-way bearing sleeves that will last almost forever. They are extremely hard and I've had over 200 flights on my prototype version and not a single mark can be found on the sleeve.

I'll post images of the components installed in the helicopter tonight when I get home. I'm glad to see there is a developing interest in my designs - it's fun to share great ideas for other heli fans.

its nice to see that you finally spoke up plkoegler. I think I'll make the one plate that i have material and the model for and leave the production runs to you.

just an update, i got started milling out the plate today. I've gotta machine the sides by hand so its taking a bit longer than anticipated, but once i get into doing the pockets it will go pretty fast. you can't comprehend how many metal chips you generate converting a 2.4 lb block of aluminum to a 3 ounce plate though...

glad to see you back with new designs. I had interest in them the first time you posted them I believe that one way sleeve you have there will be a hit if mass produced.

Anyone who machines anything at some point in their life surely has a shop vac clogged with swarf never to be removed in hard to reach places

its so true. the shop vac only saw some of the stuff though, the bulk of it got recycled into the chip bin. cal state schools are cheap enough they use the old aluminum for casting new aluminum!

Align has addressed the problem and released a v3 sleeve.

FYI if you do decide to run off some sleeves I'll save you some headaches, making them harder is one part of the problem. They still lock up so you will need to make them bigger than the original dim.

Been there, done that. Have fun.

Thanks for the heads-up Ticidy - I actually discovered that issue and slightly increased the diameter of the sleeve as well. I'm using Tool Steel B2 (properly heat-treated) in my design, which is incredibly strong, hard surfaced, and will easily last for the life of the helicopter.

I've attached images of my helicopter below with the upgraded designs. I'm thinking of running 100 of each part in aircraft-grade Alumimum 7075-T6 with blue, clear, and black anodize for major "bling" factor. The parts in my helicopter are currently not-anodized, so what you are seeing are raw-machined parts. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me which parts and the quantity (or PM) to my e-mail at plkoegler@hotmail.com. I'm receiving quotes right now on parts and the more I can order, the lower the cost will be. I'm hoping to have parts from the machine shop within 3- 4 weeks lead-time. I'll be getting the "Base Frame v1" in first, followed by the "Base Frame v2" design, the one-way bearing sleeves, and then the rest of the parts depending on interest.

Base Frame v1 (one-piece design with LiPo support)

Base Frame v2 (with replaceable front LiPo supports)

Center Brace v2 (increases frame rigidity and flight accuracy)

Front Brace v2 (increases frame rigidity and flight accuracy)

Gyro Mount Brace (increases frame rigidity and flight accuracy)

One-Way Bearing Sleeve (Tool Steel B2 replacement)

Great News! The TREX 500 Aluminum Bottom Bracket design is almost out of production and will be shipping on July 2, 2008. The design is available for preorder on my website, so check it out (www.kdedirect.com). It is a direct retrofit for the flimsy, stock plastic frame and the quality is again the best available for HeliFreaks. I've attached a few images of the new design (the images are of a first prototype part from the CNC mill and have not been finished or anodized, Final production parts have a much cleaner finish and a clear anodize).

I'm pleased to announce the new TREX 500 Aluminum Bottom Bracket Upgrade is available for immediate shipping and a third vendor (www.readyheli.com) is now carrying the KDE Direct line. The new design came out awesome, with a satin-brushed Aluminum finish and a MIL-spec clear anodize to show off the CNC machining. I'm confident the new design is one of the best upgrades available on the market and I'm looking forward to the response and seeing them on pilot's helis at the Fun Flys!
