The plate on a Raptor 50 is nice and thick. Anyone try to modify it to fit a 600?

yeah, I told him about the CAD plans for the aluminum lower tray, but he didn't seem interested. He made his own frame, so the tray wouldn't have fit. This tray was designed for the stock frames by a dude on runryder who was kind enough to let me have a copy of the plans.
Been saving them 'till I run into a machinist. I myself couldn't cut a straight part on my lathe or mill if my life depended on it

how about hand CNC out of 4mm carbon plate. , the bottom plate is not that hard to cut. i guess a flat plate couple of holes out of it , then we are done right? if circles hole hard to cut then do the square or triangle hole then, just saw them off

may be he don't want to work on alum , ask them to do on g10 or carbon materials then, good luck.

i hope MicroHeli will do a alum bottom plate for trex 600 soon, like they done with the trex 450, its a cool piece of creative work

May be able to help with your cad application. One of the people that comes out to the field has a CNC machine. He made servo plates for 1/4 scale planes.

i made one out of wood for my 450, worked great for the few flights i had it on for

on another note, what file type is the file you've got casey? i might be able to persuade one of the manufacturing professors into letting me use one of the CNC mills if i have a file in hand. should only cost for the material.

assuming that i can actually get access to the needed labs and have people to help me, i can make practically anything with enough work. if you really wanted it, i could design a aluminum/carbon hybrid, and make the parts to whatever size/thickness you needed. we can even make the carbon in the composites lab, and i think they have some of the carbon Kevlar mix that lets you have red yellow or blue weave, for a weight and strength penalty (dont want that now do we?)

so i'll go check on the status of me being able to use the machine shop for personal stuff tomorrow and let you know if i can help you out.

as an update, i just checked with my old IME prof, and im good to use the machine shop anytime between 8am and 3pm on wednesdays and fridays. as of now i can do basic vertical mill work, and lathe work for the price of materials. I can use the CNC mill once i find someone to help me program it. so let me know what you want and i will look into the feasibility of being able to make it

at my disposal:
manual engine lathe
vertical knee mill
broaching machine
grinder (maybe make myself some titanium main shafts?)
CNC lathe
5-axis CNC mini mill

im not sure who to talk to about making my own composites, but im pretty sure that if i have dragon plate or similar, ill be able to mill through it in the mill

"buddy",thats going to be your new name good work buddying up to the prof. lets see if we can assemble it of alum first then go for carbon, how does the shop feel about working with carbon?

im not so sure about whether they'll let me mill carbon. that stuff is messy and bad for you. straight aluminum should be a cinch though once i get someone to help me program the CNC mill

what about asking MicroHeli to make one just like their 450's

cause they wont make them for such a small run, and it (at least should) take a good bit of money to setup a production run for those parts. anyway, who would want to pay what microheli would charge for it when you can make one for less than half of their price?

yeah, thats the other problem with microheli stuff, they use a soft grade of aluminum so they can save on machining cost (wears the tools less). I'm planning on using 7075, so integrity shouldnt be too much of a problem
