I'm sure some are getting tired of hearing from me....but want all the info i can ge before i shell out $400 to $600 for an electric. how are the hdx 450....are they worth the money, I have been told that the trex parts are fully compatable with this machine except for the spindle is this correct? Now I would like all info good or bad on the main 3 helis I am looking at. Trex450, Dragonus II elite, Hdx 450.

Not to throw more complication, but there are a LOT of good flight and durability reports on the Thunder Tiger E325 Mini Titan. Infinity Hobbies has them with motor and esc for less than $200.00, a very good deal. It is all plastic, but plastic can be durable too.

Anyhow, the HDX 450 is not well known, but do a search on RR, someone has some experience. I'd be leary of inferior aluminum alloy which would not wear as well and be more likely to break or bend in a crash. I'd stick with the Trex SE (get a used one- they are good bargains as folks are ditching them to upgrade to the V2) for a metal head/tail heli- parts are available any/everywhere and are reasonably priced for the most part.

If people aren't tired of this type of question, you'll get lots of answers.
The T-Rex is a tried and true platform. It performs great out of the box, parts are dirt cheap and readily available EVERYWHERE and depending on the model you pick they are pretty crash worthy. I've proven this point extensively

The Dragonus is trying to get into the T-Rex market share. Decent heli from what I've READ, but I've never actually flown one.

While I've never flown and HDX450, I did own another HDX product and I still hold a grudge against my bud for talking me into it. Was very glad the day I sold it. That's all I say on it.

You obviously read the T-Rex forums, now go read the Dragonus and HDX forums and make up your own mind. All I can say is I know you will not be un-happy w/ a T-Rex.

If ever given the choice between a genuine item or something that is like or a clone of always choose the real McCoy. The only two that I can comment on are the Trex and the HDX. I own a Trex and have seen and help setup the HDX. The HDX is not bad however there are enough differences between the two that make setting (ie. wire routing, electronics placement) a bit of a headache with the HDX. The HDX flies well and you get quite a bit of bling with it but I don't think you can match the tried and true. The Mini Titian has peeked my interest as well but I have not even seen one in the air in person.

To make a long story short, no matter what you buy, in the end youll end up getting a t-rex. Might as well save time and money and get the t-rex right off the bat .

I think the HDX 450 is a good value for the money. You get an ESC and motor with full aluminum head and tail. I have not owned one but have owned the STK frame that I used with the Align head and microheli tail. I had good experience with this. The nice thing about the STK is that it uses almost the same parts as the 450 so you can buy an endless supply of parts. The only difference is the antirotation collar and the washer between the main gear and frame. You can get extras of this from HeliDirect.

However, if you want to make sure you get the best, you can probably get a good deal on the TRex 450V1 which is probably a safer bet.

Just remember, the flying characteristics will be similar but you need to outfit it with good electronics such as a good cyclic servos and especially a good gyro. I had a great time flying my STK.

don't buy some knock of brand just because they say it is good. I have a t-rex, and love it. Those HDx pieces of junk are some foney off brand. The t-rex is the real macoy, Period.

snomobila, I’d like to know how you have arrived at this informed decision. Ever flown one? Ever even seen one? Just Courious!

There is one thing you can always count on: GRAVITY WORKS!

I have one, had it for a year.
Medusa 3400, 12 tooth pinion, flight power batteries.
Goes like stink, very stable.
Only issue....feathering spindles and tail shafts must be ordered online for me. No local supply.
Would I do it again, yep!

If you bling it, they will come :D

I have an HDX450se, I like it. My only complaints are the main blade spindle bends very easily (almost too easily)and no directions (the finless bob videos on another forum made the build go very easily, although I still had to modify the frames to accept the bearing holders). The HDX was my first mini e-heli, The motor that came with it it not that powerful, the speed control $uck$ ( I replaced it with the align 35A control and 430L motor. Now it flies with some authority). The carbon blades that came with the kit were ok, I replaced them with v-blades, it flies better with the v-blades. The HDX is a great bird, I believe the aluminum is made from some rather hard aluminum I forget what type ie: 7075-t6 something like that. I have almost 100 flights on my HDX with no problems. Other than my li-po's have puffed (that's what I get for buying some cheap li-po's) The HDX (at least the one I have and the way I set it up) needs a 190-200 gram battery to balance the heli. The t-rex 450sa only needed a 150-160 gram battery to get it in balance. I can tell you for sure the t-rex sa is rather fragile, a friend wrecked 2 in the last 2 weeks, they both required a re-kit (3 out of the 4 frame pieces were bent) On one wreck the boom hit first, the other was an inverted crash. Just about everything was damaged. (Cheaper to re-kit). I landed the HDX hard (blades never touched the ground) and only bent the main blade spindle.

Good luck choosing (it's a tough decision)
