I am considering buying a Zagi, after being presented with a good deal on one. The idea of having something less intense to fly appeals to me, especially when I'm near a park and far from the field.

What do other heli pilots think about them? Are they fun? I will appreciate any information

I have had several Zagis, still have one. They are a blast to fly.

How long does a flight typically last?

Depends on how much you run the motor. On a typical flight, full throttle, 6-8 minutes. I have soared mine for over an hour, hardly running the motor at all.

If you get one, you will have a blast! We fly full contact combat with them, it's a rush to have 8 Zagis in the air at once, with everybody looking to knock someone out of the air.

Which Zagi are you talking about? I taught myself to fly fixed wing with RealFlight and a Zagi 400X. With the stock Speed 400 motor and 1700mah battery I normally get 10 minutes or so of fairly high throttle flight. Mine has close to 200 flights on it and has been slammed into the ground many times. Just put some tape on it and throw it back up in the air most of the time. I just did a complete recover though a few weeks ago since it was looking pretty ratty.

One of our local shops has some info on the page below. They sell tons of these things.

How do you hand launch these things? I helped a guy with one Sunday and ended up just running basically letting it fly out of my hand. Seems like if you had something to hold on to underneath it would make things easier.

try

www.charlesriverrc.org

and do a search for Zagi.

Some people hollow out two holes
in the bottom and epoxy two small
rubber cups (the type you put on the bottom
of chair legs) so that they can get their fingers
in and toss them.

I never had any trouble launching them the way they suggest in the instructions, except I do it at full throttle. The method I refer to is where you hold it in the palm of your throwing hand on the bottom, with your thumb hooked over the leading edge. Your fingers will be pointing backwards. It does seem a bit un-coordinated at first. You need to take a step or two (no need to run), and follow through.

I never found holes in the bottom to be necessary.

A friend of mine uses the discuss launch method. You'll find information on this on RC glider related sites.

They are a lot of fun to fly, and can fly just about anywhere. They are somewhat fast, so you can't fly them in small places, where, say, you could fly a GWS Tiger Moth.

Zag-nuts

The Zagi is a great little flying wing...it is Zagi owners that are the problem! Annoying little bastards!

I embedded a soda pop bottle screw top into the bottom of mine for a finger hole. It's just enough to hook it with your fingertip to give it a bit of a push when launching. works great. Cut down the threads on the inside of the cap to make it smooth.

The_Dave, shall I bring my Zagi this weekend so we can be annoying little bastards together?

I don't own any. Most of the zagi owners at our field are annoying little bastards, flying over your head when you are in a pilots box or crashing them at your feet when your flying.....like I said annoying little bastards!
