Just got this heli and this thing hovers worst than my Hummingbird V3 before the fix. I haven't tried normal foward flight yet but able to find a few bugs from the RTF kits.

This is what I've learned in the past 2 days of ownership.

1. The tail motor is turns knotchy. Actually ok and the way it is.

2. This heli responses slow which i think may be caused from the tight plastic fit. The problem with my kit is that the seesaw was screwed on too tightly onto the center hub. Once loosened the paddles was able to move freely from side to side. The plastic balls do slow things down but it is nothing compared to how tight they were assembled. Once loosen it is able to hover fine.

4. I had took everyone's advice and ordered HS55 with the heli and installed them after my first hover flight. The stock servo has alot of slop for some reason.

5. Throttle control does not feel right. The curve feels very funny. Does this transmitter has two point pitches or something? I may use my 9C to counter this problem. Anyone has advice in setting up for a 9C?

6. Stock battery is weak may have to go lipo.

This heli is dimensionly a little larger than the V3 but it is actually fat and massive. So far I do not like the motor tails especially when battery drains and it responds funny.

I got one. Flew good at first but now my problem is in the collective pitch.when I give it full power the servos only move down probably 2cm. plus when I give it barley any rudder it keeps turning the direction I tell it to.I'm not sure what the hek the problem is and its driving me crazy.

It sounds like the crappy stock servos? My stock servo has a bunch of free movement even when the servo is not moving

At servocity there is like 20% off special for HS55's right now. I strongly advise buying three of those since it is a direct fit. It will cost like $33.58 for 3pc plus shipping right now and will help make your heli fly better.

These motor tails always run funny and only work at full battery power for me. I will get lipos in the near future and hope the tail will hold better. With these RTF kits the gyro is nowhere near the quality of the Futaba 401 on my rappy and Trex.

The gyros on the Axe CP and probably the BCP are just rate gyros, not heading hold. Got to get a GY240 or similar to get HH (one of my next purchases for this heli!).

Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.

So the GY240 or GY401 will work without servos another words without (belt or shaft operated). Just plug into reciever and the tail motor will know how to act?

That's correct. There is the procedure to do the necessary modifications on the Heli-Max site (I believe), read it several weeks ago. I'll post the link if I can find it later this week -- taxes are taking priority these days...

Hi All. I have been flying the Axe Cp for the last few months. I'm new to the heli thing, but I'm very happy with this purchase as a first helicopter. Great to learn the basics with. Over the last few months, I have crashed it's too many times to count. I just keep buying parts and putting it back into the air.

Gixer, I didn't really have a problem with the servos in the beginning. They worked fine, but after 10 or so crashes, the stipped out and needed to be replaced. I purchased the HS-55 and installed them. A little better on the torque, but I didn't notice a huge improvement in the response of the heli. It's still good, don't get me wrong, but since the servos needed replacing, it was better to spend 12 bucks for the HS 55's then the 20 dollars for the oem stuff. The next 2 crashes resulted in stripping out one HS 55 each time. So they both seem prone to stripping in a cruncher. I just bought the rebuild kit for 5 bucks, and I was off and flying again.

Anyone with the AXE should jump right up into the Lipo battery. I run a 1350 mAh battery and get about 9 minutes of flight time. Now it's mostly hover and a little ff, no 3d for me quite yet. And I really don't think this bird will be much of a 3d machine. Again, It's great a training machine.

I wanted to improve my heli, so I went out and got the carbon blades. Now they are expensive, 50 bucks, but I feel they are worth it. Minor blade strikes won't send you to your LHS for the 21 dollar woodies. Survive two strikes and you have broke even.

I also went nuts and bought the HH gyro. I put a Futaba 240 on mine. I'm not real happy with this upgrade because the gyro is always working the tail. The motor will surge and retard then surge again. No matter what I set the gain to, I usually have a little tail wag except in dead calm wind. I unfortunately don't have the option to return to the mixer gyro on the 3 in 1.

A note of caution to those installing a gyro. I accidentally plugged the tail motor esc into the 3 in 1 tail motor out put from the board. Running 2 power sources into each other doesn't work well. I fried the tail ESC and also the gyro on the 3 in 1 board. At 90 bucks for a new one, I'm just going to deal with the minor tail wag with the gyro.

For you guys looking to upgrade to a HH gyro, check out this link from Heli-Max for the parts and instructions to install a HH gyro. Follow the instructions, and it's a piece of cake. Happy landings.

Thank, i'm going to adjust the current gyro first and try to make this thing fly able. I think the gain is set too high.

I put a EFlite G90 gyro on mine. Works perfectly! Holds great. I used a GWS 2amp IPS esc on the tail. I would stay away from anything over 3amps. It really drains the Main motor power for some reason. I started with a 7 amp, was not happy then the 2amp was great. Also the IPS is a high freq ESC. These work well on motor tails. They have lots of steps. I used a Pixie 20 with the stock motor and my 6102 and mini JR rx. Carbon blades are a must but stay away from the CNC grips. They have sloppy tolerances and vibe the heli to death. Mine flies great but has its limitations of course. I'd stay away from looping this thing. It can get ugly for some reason. Rolls and inverted are great. Very stable upside down.

Good stuff on the gyro's, thanks. Will wait till I go with LiPo's before adding a gyro. I have a new set of blades ready to go, but still using my original set even though I've boom-struck, dented, even broke off both 1/4" from the grips! It's all repairable. The worst one (break at grips) took me about an hour to repair both, used two toothpicks as joiners with epoxy along entire break. I also drilled 3/8" holes at the grip holes and used epoxy to create a better/stronger surface than wood for the bolts. I rebalance always, they still track and work great. Someday maybe CF. Great little copter, but with limitations as others have pointed out.

Yes. Make sure that you know how much you adjusted it otherwise it will get all messed up. I fixed mine up.All I needed to do was to adjust the gyro. After that I started getting a moter shut off type of glitch. If I get higher than 6 feet the moter will shut off and turn back on,and the helicopter will drop about a foot.It turns out all I needed to do was to reroute the antenna. It flew perfectly after that. No glitches no vibration and very stable

Do Helimax sell this heli as a KIT? You know a kit were I can put my own servos, gyro, motor, etc............

Whats the point in paying 200.oo to then spend 120.oo on a HH Futaba Gyro, 35.oo on 3 h-55 servos, batery, etc............

Isaac

Does any body on here know how to increase battery life even by at least 1 minute.I just timed mine and I only get 3 1/2 minutes. And I would replace that swashplate if I were you Crossbox

Crossbox,

My swashplate came apart too, flies funny when it does--mostly down! I just CA'd or very light epoxy'd it back together after cleaning both surfaces, no problems whatsoever after that. Also, I kept breaking the link nibs off (challenging landings...) various parts including the swash plate, so I just replaced them in pairs (for balance) as needed with 1/16" standard steel balls. Just drill a smaller than 2-56 hole, around a #52 (I think) drill. I also had to hone them down about .005" diameter to match the original plastic ones, but they don't break anymore!

will a 9.6 volt NiCd battery work on my axe instead on the stock battery?

the stock battery only gives me about 3 1/2 minutes of hovering.I just wanna know if it would work with the electronics or not
just experimenting
