Hmm - As long as you have the Feigao 1208436L motor then the only thing different besides our radios is our choice of ESCs so maybe yours is setup poorly or just isn't up to the task?? I can hardly think what else your problem could be - Mine just works so great and with three different gyros you know

Hmmm, that is a good question, and definitely cheaper than a new gyro. Although your praise for the 401, has me kinda wanting one. Why did you pick the esc you did for the tail? Is there a specific spec that makes it better for a heli?

s13flyboy:

If your ESC has to arm in the full off position, are you holding the rudder stick all the way to the left when you power up the ESC?

If not, your gyro will not be driving enough power to the tail.

that's correct the esc won't arm unless there is full left rudder. I wanted to see if I could do the seperates thing with the stock radio, before I spent two to three hundred on a radio. If any thing the motor seems to have too much power going to it.

A bit of a balance between cheapness and reputation is how I chose the TB9
I wanted to try it out as cheaply as possible but also wanted it to have a good chance of success - I was already running the TB18 on the main which was working nicely for me and people were having success with the expensive PHX10 so I thought I'd try the relatively same but cheaper TB9 and maybe that turned out to be a lucky choice because it worked great without a hitch

Well I had the same idea, but maybe I went too cheap. What is there to set up on the TB9? Could I use the stock tx or do i need to just bite the bullet and go digital?

There's nothing to setup on the TB9 - It only has 3 programmable features and they're already factory set correctly so it was plug and play for me

As far as radios I rather doubt your problem is radio related - I'll offer pretty much the same advice about getting a computer radio as getting a GY401 gyro - The stock radio is just adequate to do the job but it should be fine - However if you're serious about being a heli hobbiest a decent computer radio is a very nice thing to have and pretty much necessary if you get into other helis - But again I'm going to try not to recommend anything that isn't absolutely necessary to solving your problems - Though I haven't used a stock radio since my first week of owning a BCP I believe it should do the job adequately enough and that your problems should lie elsewhere

As far as where the GY401 stands out to me is mostly in pirouetting combo maneuvers such as piroflips piroloops and pirofunnels which I get a smooth consistent piro rate all the way through the maneuvers whereas the other gyros were either stop&go tight or too loose through those maneuvers - So maybe not something a beginner would fully appreciate but superior none the less - Worth upgrading to is a personal preference/financial thing

I agree with you that the problem is somewhere other than the radio, i didn't know if the esc had any programming to it. I thought I had heard of esc's that were programmable.

As far as the radio and gyro choices, you hit upon my thoughts. They would be nice have and to transfer to other birds later on.

I believe that I will try and find a tb9 esc since it is cheaper than a gyro. Is BP the cheapest place to purchase it online?

I'll find one somewhere and let you know how it goes, thanks for the help guys

Yeah the TB9 only has the 3 programmable features and the PHX10 has a bunch - I'm wondering if it's maybe the operating curve of your ESC that's causing the problem - How quickly it changes motor speed

I'm finding BP Hobbies to be about the cheapest place to buy anything online

I hope you get it working - It's been the best thing I've done for my BCP - Brushed DD worked good for me while it worked but Brushless DD works great for me always and is still in keeping with the simplicity of the BCP

Has anyone ever done brushless seperates with this esc for the tail?

I am not sure if 6amps is enough, what do you guys think?

http://www.feigao.com/sdp/85838/4/p...5844-51427.html (pic shows 6A vs 10A)

I think it's a brand new ESC and it looks pretty interesting to me - 6A should be fine for the 4A rated motor - If I had to replace my TB9 I'd seriously consider it at $15.95 and sake of curiosity - If it didn't work for me I could go back to what I know does work

Kinda tough little decision for you though - Gamble on another cheap ESC or spend more on something with a successful reputation - In the end your ESC may not even be the cause of your troubles after you've bought a few and still gotten nowhere

I hope you have good luck with whatever you decide on though

what about the eflite 10amp esc, has anyone ever used that for a tail esc?

I have tried the Eflite 10A ESC for brushed GWS motor.

I fried the motor with it.

I also tried it with the stock tail, and am not happy with the holding power - although, this may be caused by a failing stock tail motor...

I just put in a very fun 200th 8 minute flight on this tail motor and it still performs like the 1st even giving it a fair workout all along - I've really gotta get serious about getting some more video to show off these insanely fast inverted backwards hurricanes/wall of death & decent pirofunnel performance

All right guys, I'm back for more! I just put my brand new TB-9 in the chopper tonight and took a test flight. The good news is that the chopper is flyable now.

The bad news is that it still has a wobble at what should be a reasonable gain setting on the G90, 50% HH mode.

One question on the TB-9 does it beep about once every five or so seconds while it's on? Is this a bad thing?

My G90 seemed to work best at about 40% gain with this setup

The TB ESCs have a model locator feature that beeps every few moments while powered but disengaged

It works!

Well, I finally got my Blade done with separates. Flies great! Hovers like a dream. Tail holds like crazy with the 2100 controlling the brushless tail. Flies almost as well as my Rexys.

Thanks to Micro-Maniac for all the help on this. You truly are the BL DD tail guru!

That's one tricked-out BCP - Glad you got it all ironed out and flying

Unfortunately for me mine took damage in a crash and died so I guess I'll be ordering up another for myself - But I definitely got my $26 worth out of that one anyways - Looks like they have fuchsia colored cans now eh

Meanwhile my H2 is seeing some airtime anyways

Ouch, well hopefully she'll be up and running soon.. Took mine out to burn a few packs. She flew great! Nice forward flight, smooth controlled turns, a couple flips and rolls, nice piros, this is how the CP Pro should fly out of the box. This setup is very solid. This is the best this chopper has EVER flown.

Yeah, I didn't have much choice on the color. A friend had it sitting in his tool box and he sold it to me. I was just glad to find one locally.
